We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Merritt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Being a mom of three littles and running my own business has been one giant balancing act to say the least. I am constantly on my toes tending to the kiddos, taking care of myself and Sweaty as a Mother. I have learned a lot over the last 2.5 years–one thing being that there are so many factors in the day that are out of my control and up to baby, the toddler,(aka my bosses) etc and is why it became of utmost importance that I scheduled my day to benefit myself and the entire family. When running a business, things are constantly changing and there is always something you need to tend to. The same goes when being a mom and my balancing act changes daily. Over-time, I have changed when I get the most work done, when I train clients, do my own workouts, etc , One day I feel like I have it all together and then the next, I feel like I am struggling to get anything done. If I am having to focus more on work, the kids suffer and vice versa, There is not perfect balance, but if you plan ahead and manage your expectations, anything is possible.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I made the hard decision to leave my full-time job — as the General Manager of TITLE Boxing Club — so I could stay home with my little babies. I knew I wanted to continue to share my passion for helping others so I started my online fitness business and blog, “Sweaty as a Mother” in 2018 and I have been growing ever since! The amount of information out there can be super overwhelming for pregnancy and postpartum fitness, so I wanted “Sweaty as a Mother” to be a place where people can come and read/understand all of the latest research and recommendations! I am passionate about helping mom’s feel confident and make time for themselves and their health, because let’s be real, it’s tough to balance! It hasn’t always been easy, trying to juggle being a full-time mom of three littles and running a business is crazy. I feel like I can’t ever get ahead, but I also feel so grateful for what I get to do and who I get to work with. My clients and my followers are everything and they keep me going. I am proud of my growth over the last 2 years and of the 2 online programs I have put out there. I want everyone to know that they can feel good again after having kids and that you do not have to put yourself on the back burner! With a little bit of planning ahead and some ideas from “Sweaty as a Mother” you can be a happy, healthy and thriving mother xoxo
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Coronado, so I love to take everyone on a bike ride around the island and grab a latte and muffin from Parakeet cafe. We would stop by the hotel del and soak in the views, then head under the bridge and take the ferry across to Seaport Village. There grab lunch at Puesto for some delicious tacos and then cruise around and catch the ferry back. Another must is to head to balboa park and take in all of the beauty it has to offer. Since I am a mom of three, we always head to the zoo and spend the day there (when it is open). If they love to ride horses, down in imperial beach we love to head to pony land and do a 2 hour private tour around the estuary and after get drinks at Mike Hess! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is no doubt that I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for the love and support of the amazing people in my life. I want to give shout outs to my incredible husband, my caring mother and my extraordinary clients. Without them, I would not be where I am today and for that I am forever grateful.
