We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Suen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I believe that the most important thing that I have done as a parent in terms of the impact on my children is be passionate and pursuit your dream to the fullest by working hard and not trying the short cuts. Success is not a guarantee but by trying your best, you will always learn something new and beneficial. Even if you failed, don’t be discouraged as you will learn and use that as a lesson to help you in the future. Have the passion, putting in your best effort, and persevere is what I want to
Inspire my children the most.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business mainly focused on kid’s items, cosmetics, and baking goods. As a retail business owner, the one thing that I am very proud of and excited about is our ability to learn and adapt to what the customers want. We have gone through several major micro challenges including the 2008 economy crisis and the recent pandemic, yet we have not only survived but came out even stronger than before as our customer base has grown. How did we do it? By keeping up to date and learning something new everyday. We must learn and keep up with the latest trend and custom our products that meet our customer needs. what I would like to be remembered about our brand is our product quality and creativity. Whether it be kids items from our Kids Opera or our special cookies from our Cookies Opera. When you get something from us, you know you are getting the highest quality product with the unique design.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would recommend checking out the historical Sesport Village and making sure you stop by the Kids Opera store locating at the west side of the village. Then making a stop at Old Town San Diego before you spend the rest of your day at Balboa Park and the museums inside. You get to appreciate the history of San Diego as as well as having some fun and great sightseeing at these 3 locations.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My store manager, Ginger is someone that I respected and inspiration to me. She has to deal with several family issues as well as financial hardship yet she always works very hard with a smile and refuse to take any government support because she wants to be self sufficient. Her positive attitude and perseverance is something that is very inspirational to me.
