We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Cannon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, why did you pursue a creative career?
It wasn’t by choice initially. It started with my getting my masters degree in clinical psychology. While in school I had a professor who said that to prevent the stress of bringing the emotional ‘baggage’ that as counselors we are consistently empathizing with to the home life, we should find an outlet. It was then, after living with creatives for 4 years, I decided to get my first iPhone and start taking photos of the ocean and posting them to instagram. Jumping ahead 2 years I had gained 500,000 followers on instagram, created content for some of the biggest brands and flown all over the world. Throughout that entire journey though, it was the question, “How did you do it?” that officially lead me to pursue a creative career. I wanted to understand why I had become so successful and see if I could help others do the same.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My journey started with a passion for better understanding people. My initial success came from creating a product that people loved. My ongoing success came from understanding why people loved my work and learning how to apply it to future projects of my own, of others and projects that connected with additional demographics of people. What has been the driving passion behind my work thus far and moving into the future is the idea that it’s all about what you can do to provide value to others and the key component that its not what you find valuable, but what your consumer finds valuable! That concept has worked for every project, for every demographic, across all platforms that I have worked throughout my time in the marketing/branding space.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well one of the best parts about living in Southern California is you are always 90 minutes away from almost anything. That being said, some of the must-do’s on my list are the beach at sunset, Big Bear for the snow, LA for Griffith Observatory, San Diego from a California Burrito, and then of course Anaheim to hit up Disneyland!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to my wife/family! From the beginning, she has always been on this journey with me; trying new things, going places, trying new styles, doing a ton of work for free to get my foot in the door, and that has continued onto my family as we have had our 3 amazing kids!
