We had the good fortune of connecting with Sumer Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sumer, how do you think about risk?
Facing fears and taking risks is definitely something we all need to face for success in following our passions whether it be in our career or life in general! This was HUGE for me. I had a very comfortable full time job for over a decade that didn’t fuel any passion inside me, but it was decent, consistent pay, with benefits and room for growth. But since it didn’t stir passion inside of me it ended up causing stress, burn out, fatigue, anxiety and depression. For so long I felt like I was stuck there and actually even felt guilty for letting the burn out get to me because I knew I was lucky to have that job and it wasn’t a “terrible” job. I had a huge fear of taking risks, the big one being leaving my job with consistent pay and benefits even though I was unhappy. But one day I finally decided I wasn’t going to keep complaining about something I wasn’t willing to do anything to change. What felt right to me was to take baby steps of risks. I realized the time was going to by anyway so might as well start with investing in educating myself in the field of nutrition and holistic health which I had a very strong interest in because I needed to help myself in that area AND give myself a chance at another career path. As my health became better, my passion grew for helping others in the same way. Through lots of prayer and growing my personal relationship with God I knew there was a purpose for that passion. Long story short, I learned FAITH is EVERYTHING when taking risks. Faith that God is calling you towards something is assurance that He will create that path but it must be lead through Faith, something that you can not see. Taking risk is a leap of a faith!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
For over a year now, I’ve had my own online practice, “Holistic Sumer”. I specialize in helping people regain their health and energy by addressing root cause issues contributing to annoying gut issues, food sensitivities, skin issues, and chronic fatigue. We utilize functional lab work along with addressing the persons experienced symptoms and lifestyle so we aren’t wasting time and money guessing what is wrong or just masking symptoms with a “band-aid” approach. I’m incredibly proud to be able to help others in this way because it’s everything that I suffered from for YEARS with no answers, help or results from the western medical system or from products on tv and ads that said they guaranteed the results that I prayed for. The fact that I remained in faith that I would one day heal my gut, have ZERO food sensitives, heal my chronic fatigue, AND have clear blemish free skin after these chronic symptoms negatively effected my life for so long felt like a miracle. I knew I had to help others who were ready to commit to healing achieve their miracle too. Through my own health journey, I learned there is no short cut, there is no one product, one medication, one procedure, to living an overall optimal healthy life. But you can make it a lot easier on yourself if you find the right experienced, caring practitioner to support and guide you along the way. It’s not going to be easy but your health and quality of this one life you have is more than worth it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
SO much to do in San Diego! I am born and raised here and have spent most of my time in La Jolla and North County which are still my favorite parts of San Diego so I would mainly stick to these areas. I’m a beach girl so we would definitely need to spend lots of time hanging out at beaches like Swami’s, Cardiff and Wind N Sea, which are my favorites.
Days visiting La Jolla, we would definitely hit up El Pescador for the best and freshest seafood in San Diego. If we are getting fancy, hit up one of the really nice restaurants in downtown La Jolla that overlook the water near the cove.

We would spend lots of time up north in Encinitas and Cardiff, my favorite towns in SD. So many great food choices up here, like Ki’s, which overlooks Seaside Beach and has healthy meals options. Goodonya and Nectarine Grove for lots of high quality organic food options. Moonage Food Truck in Leucadia for delicious, gourmet tacos and some old school rock n roll vibes.

Also so many great farmers markets across the county. We would likely visit the most local to me which is the Leucadia Farmers Market on Sunday mornings. I love all the local vendors and wide range of food options!

I’m always early to bed and like to enjoy the beautiful San Diego weather as much as possible so night life isn’t my forte. My bestie and I would save all our energy for beautiful beach days, fun outside walks, and yummy healthy lunch and dinner spots!

A walk around Mission Bay is always a great idea too. It’s so beautiful there, and all this food we are eating its good to get some exercise in!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well first off, as already mentioned God was what gave me the courage and strength to become a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, leading me to start my own practice as a Gut Health Coach. All the people along the way that influenced me were put there by God to speak encouragement and support into me, no doubt. My Husband, Josh Hunt, who was my boyfriend at the time was and still is my biggest support to help me take these risks, signing up for education programs and stepping down from my comfortable job to pursue my passion. His support in multiple ways is why I started my online health coaching programs. Having the right people in your life can change EVERYTHING in all the right ways!
