We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Muckey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I’ve done as a parent is model how to navigate life with resilience, focus, and intention. I’ve tried to show my children that while we can’t control everything that happens to us, we can absolutely control how we respond. Life brings change, uncertainty, and setbacks, but our power lies in what we choose to make of those moments. I’ve been intentional about teaching them to focus on what’s within their control: their mindset, work ethic, adaptability, and belief that obstacles can be overcome. I want them to see that change isn’t something to fear, it’s something to navigate with courage and creativity. I’ve also tried to show them they don’t have to choose between family and a meaningful career. When you pursue work aligned with your purpose, passion and responsibility stop competing and start complementing each other.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets Semper Fi Senior Care Inc, doing business as Senior Helpers, apart is the heart behind our name. Semper Fi, “Always Faithful”, the Marine Corps motto, is a standard we hold ourselves to. It means showing up with integrity, compassion, and consistency. It means doing what’s right even when no one is watching. And it means honoring every client and family with the same level of commitment and loyalty we’d want for our own loved ones. That is the foundation of our business.

I’m especially excited about the work we’re doing to support our senior veteran neighbors. That mission is personal for us. As a military spouse, my career path was anything but straight. Every move meant leaving roles early and starting over again. What felt like setbacks at the time ended up shaping me, teaching me to adapt, stay curious, and see change as an opportunity to grow. Those lessons prepared me for this work.

At Senior Helpers of Redlands, we bring those values into everything we do. We provide high quality in home care for aging adults, individuals with chronic conditions, and families who need a partner they can trust. We tailor our care to the person, their needs, their story, their goals, because caregiving isn’t simply a service; it’s a relationship. It’s stepping into someone’s home and honoring their dignity, their independence, and their humanity.

I want people to know the strength that military spouses and veterans bring to the workplace, the resilience, the flexibility, the ability to lead through uncertainty. Those qualities show up in our team every day. They shape how we serve, how we connect, and how we support our community.

The journey to owning this business wasn’t easy, but it was intentional. Every challenge prepared me. Every transition taught me something. And today, I’m proud to lead a company grounded in service, compassion, servant leadership and community, a company that lives up to the promise behind its name: Always Faithful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit for a week, I’d want them to see the Redlands I love, the small businesses, the history, the orange groves, the local food, and the people who make this place feel like home.

We’d start by walking to Landmark, my favorite local coffee shop where they always remember you and your order, then wander through Historic Downtown Redlands, stopping by the Visitor Center to browse local finds and get a feel for what makes this citrus town so special. We’d duck into Umbrella Alley for a photo op, take our time walking past the downtown murals, and probably pop into a thrift shop or two, it’s always fun to see what you find.

On another day, I’d bring them to my church community at Citizens, because the people there are a big part of why Redlands feels like home to me. We could check out Olive Ave Market’s Friday Night Flea, always lively, always welcoming, and have a treat from A La Minute ice cream, made fresh to order using liquid nitrogen for this incredibly smooth, creamy texture with locally sourced flavors.

One morning we’d grab matcha at Hooray Coffee before biking through South Redlands, past historic homes, palm tree-lined streets, and the orange groves that have shaped this community for generations. Every so often you come across a little roadside stand selling whatever’s in season, oranges, lemons, pomelos, avocados, and those simple moments feel like the heartbeat of this place. We’d could wind through Prospect Park and maybe catch a show at the outdoor amphitheater.

Another day, we’d tour Kimberly Crest House & Gardens, one of Redlands’ most iconic Victorian landmarks, and stop by Burrage Mansion, a historic gem that’s been beautifully preserved and is the last remaining Redlands estate intact on its original acreage. Afterward, we’d swing by Gerard’s Market for the freshest local produce and grab açaí bowls to enjoy on the patio.

Later in the week, dinner at Citrone, a family-owned fine dining restaurant in a restored 1904 brick building, with live jazz and wine tasting offered monthly. On a separate evening, we could head to Hangar 24 for live music and their Orange Wheat craft beer, brewed with whole Redlands oranges, a true nod to our city’s roots.

And no visit would be complete without an evening at the Redlands Bowl, the longest-running free outdoor concert series in the United States, going strong since 1924. Sitting under the stars, surrounded by the community, is one of the most meaningful and timeless parts of Redlands.

We’d could also spend a morning at the Lincoln Memorial Shrine, a surprisingly unique museum dedicated to Lincoln and the Civil War, and walk through the stunning A.K. Smiley Library, one of the city’s most beloved landmarks.

Before the week wrapped up, we’d take a peaceful walk through the University of Redlands campus, then drive to North Cork in Yucaipa for sunset wine tasting, quiet, scenic, and the perfect way to watch the sun set over the Inland Valley.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents and siblings have always had an unwavering belief in me, no matter what life has thrown my way, and that kind of steady support taught me early to lead with gratitude. I grew up in a family that never let me doubt my potential and reminded me constantly that hard work, giving back, and owning your choices matter. I’m grateful to God for blessing me with a family whose love and encouragement have carried me through every season.

My daughters inspire me daily. As military children, they’ve faced more goodbyes, changes, and transitions than most people will in a lifetime, yet they meet each new chapter with quiet strength and flexibility. Their resilience keeps me grounded and reminds me to appreciate the small, steady acts of courage in everyday life. I thank God for the gift of who they are, their hearts, their spirit, and the light they bring to the world around them.

And my husband, his support runs deep and shows up exactly when it matters. His belief in me is a big part of why I take risks and pursue the things that matter. His service, his steadiness, and the grounding presence he brings to our family give me something solid to stand on. I’m incredibly grateful for him, and for the way God brought us together and continues to strengthen our partnership.
