We had the good fortune of connecting with Sol Wade and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sol, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I love reading daily affirmations, quotes that I can relate to or just get my day going! A few of my favorite; “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none” It’s how I live! I have a small circle of friends that I love and loyalty is extremely important to me. “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”… This one is great! It’s me! I love that you can take life by the horns and still have a sense of humor! “You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” —Maya Angelou Every day!!!!!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a hairstylist, I have so much artistic freedom. From the choice of colors, technique, placement. I love all that! My favorite thing to do is cut hair. I love sculpting it! I think it’s what has set me apart in this industry. Wasn’t easy! It took me over four years to build, get noticed and truly make a footprint! There were times my clients were not happy with their service, and that’s hard for any stylist! Doubt comes creeping in and stays for a few days. I had to train myself to accept rejection as an opportunity for growth. Being a hairdresser wasn’t something that I thought of doing when I was a kid. I always thought it was “cool” but out of reach. Wasn’t until my 30’s that I decided to go to beauty school. I was ready. Eager. Determined! I had so much on my plate that failure was not an option. Fast forward 9 years, I’m more in love with this career than ever. It’s giving me so much opportunity as a business woman, a single mom, as an artist and I have met some amazing people along the way. It’s part of who I am!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If I had a long week of entertaining my friends, I guess I’d start locally! Temecula has some of the most beautiful wineries in California. Wine tours, brunching at Wilson Creek, having lunch in old town Temecula, especially at Goat and Vine, my favorite restaurant in town! Hang out at the pool at Pechanga casino for the day, and maybe comedy club afterwards. On the weekend I would definitely make a San Diego trip! From the beach, to gaslamp! Eating away at Rustic Root, to dancing the night away at Bang bang! I love house music, so I’d end our week at Firehouse in PB on Sunday. Brunch then some dancing upstairs! And of course, that sunset !
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I get up every day with a mission of making the best out of that day. I think subconsciously I’m trying to make my mother proud. She passed away 8 years ago, when I started my career. She never got to see me flourish. On a more conscious level, I have some amazing women around me that are so inspiring, kind, loving and supportive. My friends, my daughters whom are so proud and encouraging! These women are a big part of my daily hustle, and for that I’m grateful.
