We had the good fortune of connecting with Simon Pacific & Liza Vows and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simon & Liza, what do you attribute your success to?
We think there’re a few things that can make or break your business. The most important one for us has been having a very strong “why”. There will be hundreds of challenges on your way to success, no matter what type of business you’re in. All kinds of things are going to happen. A strong “Why” will keep your focus on the big picture, on what really matters. It will propel you forward. To this day we’ve never met someone who’s become successful in business without having something bigger than themselves driving them. It can’t be just money, or fame, or anything else of that calibre. You must ask yourself why it’s essential for your business to work, and keep asking until you find the answer.
Our mission has always been to give 200% to everyone we work with. Most of the events we are hired to document happen only once in a couple’s life, therefore we must do everything to create an unforgettable experience, and deliver the kind of images that will evoke incredibly strong emotions in people for decades.
The is no magic formula, or shortcut. We know, it’s not the answer most people like to hear, but that’s the secret. Be the best you can be, give everything you have to the people you get to work with, and success becomes inevitable. Give, and everything else will fall into place.
What should our readers know about your business?
We didn’t get into adventure wedding/Elopement photography business by accident. Trial and error. Lots of it. We’ve had five different companies combined, and three of them failed. What was the main reason? Our hearts weren’t in it. To understand whether you like it or not, you’ve got to give it a try. No matter how long it takes you to find the right business to be in, it will be worth it. Nothing feels better than making a living doing something you genuinely enjoy. Nothing does.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of our favorite places are: Sunset Cliffs, Mtn. Laguna, Del Mar Dog Friendly Beach. The Mexican food in San Diego is the best. No matter where you go.
If you have a week of, we’d definite suggest going to Sedona AZ, or Zion National Park in Utah.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the people we got to work with throughout all these years. Our parents. All the Instagram, and YouTube channels that provide you with any kind of information you’re trying to find. Tim Ferris, his books and business podcasts.
