We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Georgitsis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sierra, what do you attribute your success to?
Being consistent and providing value to my audience. From the start I knew that I wanted my content to be enjoyable to watch but also valuable to the viewer. In my case that meant creating step-by-step recipe videos that are easy to follow and on trend with what’s currently popular in foodie culture as well as seasonally relevant. I stayed consistent with this model since the beginning of 2022 and have had immense growth on all platforms as well as a very engaged audience. I come out with 1-2 new recipes every week (cross posted to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest), post stories daily, as well as 3-4 recipe blog posts per month on my self-hosted website spoonfulofsi.com.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a recipe developer, food blogger, photographer, videographer and digital content creator. I’m Greek and focus on Mediterranean cuisine. I create and share original recipes in blog, photo, and video format across all social media platforms as well as my own food blog/website. I focus on value-added content for my audience, meaning I keep my finger on the pulse of my viewers and curate content that is relevant to the season, trends and their needs. I believe my easy to follow recipe content in the Mediterranean niche is valuable to the average home cook and unique enough to set me apart from others.
I treated this venture as a business from the start and invested in tools right away such as courses on photography, keyword research and blogging as well as lighting equipment, kitchenware, and photography/videography equipment. This has all legitimized my platform through high quality, professional content. Also, by offering a website, my audience has a hub in which they can go to for all of my recipes in one place, detailed instructions, photos and printable recipes. I plan to self-publish a cookbook this year which will also add a lot of value to my audience and enable them to have my recipes in a tangible way.
On the business side of things, I use my website to run Ads, I earn through the TikTok creator program, as well as the Amazon affiliate program and I work with brands to promote products through video campaigns posted to my social media platforms.
All of this has been a gradual progression, self-taught and not at all easy. I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons along the way. I’ve faced challenges like tech issues with my website, learning how to contract with brands and protect myself, as well as learning to ignore negative comments on social media. But because I’m truly so passionate about the content I’m creating, I wake up every day with purpose and a drive to keep going.
I think the best insight I can share with others is that I have never wanted to quit or give up while pursuing this. I worked many corporate jobs prior to getting to do this full-time and I remember being so unfulfilled and unsure about the rest of my life. Being a food blogger and content creator has provided me with so much self assurance and passion for my life and future. I would encourage anyone on the fence about pursuing a passion to just take the first step and do it. You will never regret betting on yourself.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to brunch at Cody’s La Jolla then walk down to seal beach and explore the tide pools. Then we would go for afternoon tacos at Puesto in La Jolla. Then we would grab sunset drinks at Birdseye Rooftop before grabbing dinner at Eddie V’s.
The next day I would take them to brunch at the French Gourmet. After we would walk along the boardwalk in Pacific Beach and hit some of the iconic beach bars like Lahaina’s, Shore Club, and Water Bar. We would grab some sushi for lunch at JRDN and watch the people skateboard and rollerblade past us on the boardwalk. That evening I would take them for the best Italian food at Cesarina pasta.
The following day we would have brunch at Parkhouse Eatery in university heights then we would walk around Balboa Park. In the afternoon we would head to Little Italy and check out the farmers market then grab pizza at Isola. Then we would go walk around the Embarcadero along the water before grabbing sunset dinner at the fish market.
Next day I would take them to north county to check out Encinitas and grab brunch at Biergarten then go walk moonlight beach. We would spend the day at the beach and then grab dinner at Herb & Sea.
Lastly, we would go to a day Padres game and enjoy all the local beers and eats while watching the game. Then that evening I would take them to Old Town to explore the area and eat at Casa Guadalajara or Cafe Coyote for fresh tortillas, margaritas and mexican food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe so much of my success to my partner in life, Brandon Pers. When I was at a crossroads with my career he was the one to believe in me and my potential before I could even see it. He not only encouraged me to take the leap but also fully supported me (logistically) in doing so. I was able to focus full time on my passion which turned into a real career all thanks to his unwavering support and belief in me. I also owe a huge shoutout to my family who always believed in me and instilled the confidence in me that I could be / achieve anything I wanted in this life. Their unconditional love, support and guidance is the reason I am who I am.
