We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandra Samuel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been drawn to art — I studied Fine Arts in Poland, where my favorite subjects were sculpture, graphic design, and painting. When I moved to the US, I collaborated with a company that created fruit arrangements and chocolate-covered strawberries. Seeing their process sparked something in me. I realized I could bring my own artistic background into it and create strawberries that felt more like mini sculptures than simple treats. This combination of creativity and passion naturally led me to launch Berry & Bloom.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create chocolate-covered strawberries, often paired with fresh flowers, that are like little pieces of art. What sets my work apart is the attention to detail and artistic approach — each arrangement is carefully designed to be both beautiful and delicious. I’m proud that my creations can turn ordinary moments into something memorable and special.

Starting a business wasn’t always easy, but staying true to my artistic vision and focusing on quality has been key. The lesson I’ve learned is that passion combined with persistence can transform an idea into something tangible that brings joy to others. Berry & Bloom is all about creating artful, thoughtful experiences that people can enjoy and remember.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I often have friends and family visiting from Europe, so I’ve got a list of my favorite spots to show them the best of San Diego. I’d start the week with a stroll around Colorado and a stop at my favorite ice cream spot, Nado Gelato Cafe. Some beach time is a must — Moonlight Beach for a relaxing day by the water, and Torrey Pines for a breathtaking sunset.

For a bit of adventure, I’d take them kayaking along the coastline, and I always recommend a visit to Balboa Park to explore the gardens and museums. Food is a big part of the experience: a casual happy hour at Postino, Thai food at What De Health, and a special dinner with a view at Mister A. We’d also wander through the farmers market, enjoying the fresh flowers, local goodies, and the vibrant atmosphere of San Diego.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my husband, whose encouragement and belief in me has been a constant source of strength. I’m also incredibly grateful to my family and friends, who have always supported me, cheered me on, and inspired me to take risks and pursue my passions. Finally, I want to acknowledge the creative mentors and community I’ve learned from along the way — their guidance and inspiration have helped shape Berry & Bloom into what it is today.
