Meet Sadie Poey | Content Creator & New Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sadie Poey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sadie, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a new mom, I’ve found it really hard to build community. Pregnancy and new motherhood can often be a really lonely experience for a lot of mothers, like myself. I wanted to build something that made other moms feel less alone and find someone on the internet to relate to. A lot of content that’s consumed is a highlight reel of people’s lives and that includes some of the ‘bigger’ mom influencers. Or it’s just a bunch of their wild drama. Which, don’t get me wrong, is extremely entertaining but when I looked to social media to find some commonality, it wasn’t really there. So I started sharing my own life, pregnancy journey, what I was learning as a new mom and more and people really resonated with it. My goal every time I put content out is to create a community for other new moms and parents that is relatable and reminds them that wherever they are in their journey, they are heard, validated, and not alone.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve worn a lot of different hats in my time in the workforce and I think that’s something really sets me apart from others. I’ve worked in retail, rock climbing coaching, restaurants, dance teaching to now content creation and social media. Every industry has taught me something new and given me a really diverse set of skills that I’ve taken to the next venture. Even becoming a mom has given me a whole set of skills that are applicable to my career. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a creator and entrepreneur is that you have to keep going even when it stops being new and exciting, if you want your business to succeed. It definitely doesn’t happen over night and it often takes longer than people expect it to. But once you push through the hard phase it does get really fun again.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know it’s that they need to give mothers way more credit than we do as a society now. Whether that mother is working a job or not, every day they are busting their butts to provide for their families and that’s really what keeps me going. Knowing how many other moms are killing it in their family, personal and business lives.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oooooo! Downtown Culver City has some awesome places to eat, drink, dance and shop. It’s a great place to walk around and has a lot of options for food and drink. Including Ugo, Honey’s Kettle and Citizen Public Market. I’d definitely put a beach trip in there, and walk through Abbot Kinney. A MUST EAT in my opinion is The Window at American Beauty, in the Venice/Santa Monica area. Best burgers in the LA region. As far as attractions goes, I’d put visiting The Getty Museum on the itinerary and the LA Botanical Gardens.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Two people come to mind when I think about my journey as a first time mom and content creator. First, my own mom. I was so nervous when I got pregnant that I wouldn’t also be able to tackle my business goals, and being a mother. But she continuously assured me that even if things didn’t go the way I originally planned them, everything would work out the way it was supposed to and even better. She is my go to example of a mom who can do it all, juggle her life, career and being an amazing mom to me and my brothers. Next, my partner Jason. I was just starting out my business when we met and from the jump, he was my biggest cheerleader and motivator. He celebrates even the smallest victories and inspires me to reach for more and bigger. When we had our daughter, Adalea, I was so consumed and anxious about new motherhood and he always encouraged me to share what I was going through as way to help myself process and also help other parents that may have felt the way that I did and still do at times.
From the birth of my business, to the labor and delivery room of my daughter, these two have been there for everything. Literally.
