We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Harder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose an artsitic career so I could be learning and creating things every day while I am working. I have always loved creating and transforming spaces. A career in Interior Design is a great fit for me as I get to work on new and exciting projects constantly which keeps me looking forward to the next one on a regular basis.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have had a love for art as far back as I can remember. At a young age I would spend time with my grandma and she would teach me how to make a lot of small crafts from sewing projects to christmas ornaments. As I got older I became more interested in drawing and painting. I was able to explore different mediums and techniques while I was studying Interior Design at SDSU. I enjoyed every medium I worked with and found I was always drawn toward color and texture within design. I have worked very hard to get where I am at today and have loved every minute of it. There is a lot of problem solving and working late to meet deadlines involved with design and every challenge provides an oppurtunity to learn something new and to be creative. Communication has always been really important for my business practice and it is great to see what can be accomplished when you combine minds and have a discussion about possibilities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places to visit is Sunset Cliffs. Any time of day it is gorgeous and it is a great place to clear your mind and feel connected to nature. The sunsets are always beautiful and a great way to end your day. There are a lot of great places to enjoy dinner and happy hour nearby in Point Loma and Old Town. Walking around these neighborhoods exploring shops and enjoying the view and weather our city has to offer is one of my favorite things to do with friends and my dog.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I work with a lot of amazing clients that allow me to put my touch on dozens of homes every year. A special thanks goes to Derek Harms Group, Dwell West Homes, The San Diego Home Buyer, and Acropolis Developments, among many others. I am so grateful for all of the projects I am asked to be a part of and for all the trust that is put in me with these investments. I have been able to learn a lot from all of my clients which has helped me tremendously as a business owner and allowed me to grow to where I am at today.
