We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Fitzpatrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We grew up in an entrepreneurial family. Our mom was an early JDog franchise owner and we have worked for her in multiple capacities over the years before deciding to start our own in North County San Diego.

Seamus and I have always been best friends and talked about the idea of working together on our own business. When he moved out here and was ready for his next venture, I was burned out on my corporate life. It was just the perfect time for us to take the leap and start our own thing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We’re a Junk removal company, there are tons out there. What makes us different is our cause and business model. JDog is a Veteran & Veteran family business so you have to either be a Veteran or Veteran Family to work in the organization. The goal is to hire vets who want to continue to serve their community and bring Veteran unemployment below 1%.

Our Business model is very different from others as well. We have a warehouse where we divert as much as we can from the landfills. Not only do we recycle metals and e-waste ourselves, we also store items that are not trash and rehome them to families in need. We’re currently doing this ourselves and are partnered with Habitat for Humanity.

Not only does this bring our operating costs down to provide lower prices to our communities, we’re able to give back to those in need of second hand furniture, appliances and clothes while being environmentally conscious.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While we cover all of San Diego County, we’re coastal North County kids! We’ve got to shoutout our favorite place the Fish Shop on the 101. We love our town of Encinitas and could spend the whole week there!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have to shout out our mom! She’s been an incredibly successful entrepreneur though multiple ventures our whole lives. We owe her our inspiration and guidance!
