Meet Ricardo Heredia

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricardo Heredia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricardo, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Indiana just south of Chicago. I grew up without much parenting. My big sister was my mother figure as we were in and out of Foster Homes. Food always tied everything together, brought out emotion and evoked memories.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We started Barrio Bird in 2023 taking advantage of the newly passed MEHKO bill. I was so proud of my girls getting involved and working together. I was consulting on a restaurant opening at the time so most of the work fell on Ixchel. We gained a quick following with a Fire menu and began dropping off Family Meals to local businessess. We grew and started catering and Doing Pop Ups in LA, San Diego and Tucson.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA is one of tbe most Dynamic and diverse food cities in the world. I like to hit Phillipes for a Wet Roast Beef and Tito’s in Culver City for some late night white people tacos. We gotta go to Ktown and hit Parks and Jitlada is a must in Thai Town. Next up Destroyer in Culver City for breakfast and head to Venice. For luch a Gjusta, or Bay City in Santa Monica for a Godfather. There are so many food options we are gonna need a solid week of just eating!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my daughters! Ultimately they chose me to guide them on this journey we call life. I have learned so much from them and nothing has motivated me to always be better than those two ladies.
