We had the good fortune of connecting with Renee Warren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renee, what role has risk played in your life or career?
They say that growth happens when you step outside of your comfort zone. The moments before jumping off the cliff are the worst, but once you’re in mid-air, there is nowhere to go but down, so if you can build that parachute while falling, then you’ll survive.
Why most people don’t take that leap is directly proportional to their lack of confidence in building that parachute. Here’s the thing, figuratively speaking, it’s not that complicated. But we tell ourselves it is so that we don’t have to do it to begin with.
The perpetual cycle of staying in our comfort zone, surrounded by familiarity, traps you in a mediocre life. I never wanted that, or what was expected of me, so taking risks, everyday, was the key driver to my success.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started my entrepreneurial journey when I was really young, selling jewelry at a local farmers market. Then I managed a restaurant with my sister when I was 17. Between then and today, I have ran three agencies (One acquired and another award-winning PR company) and landed on my passion company, We Wild Women. None of it was easy. Easy would have been following the pack from graduating from the Business program at University and working in corporate. That felt like hell to me.
I wanted flexibility and complete control over my time, so I kept on the entrepreneurial path which led me to much success. This also allowed me to have two babies in the same year and travelling the world with my family.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, we just moved to Kelowna BC, which has been recently recognized as the fastest growing wine region in the world. So naturally, we would book a wine tour on one day, hike the BEST local mountains on another day, go mountain biking on day three, wake surfing on the second last day, and host an epic dinner on our front patio over looking the lake and mountains on the last day. I would invite other incredible entrepreneurs to join us on every activity to share their stories of rags to riches. It’s the community and the spirit out here in BC that can heal your soul. I love it!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the women who decided to take a leap of faith and follow their dreams of starting a business. You inspire me everyday and make the most incredible people to work with (and follow.)
