We had the good fortune of connecting with Reb Risty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reb, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

My journey to starting REBL Marketing Inc. is rooted in my entrepreneurial spirit. It began with childhood endeavors like selling lemonade with my sister in my parents front yard to selling CUTCO knives door to door. My first venture was an e-commerce gift basket and candle business, primarily serving local realtors. This was followed by co-founding a successful Polynesian entertainment business, which I managed alongside full-time jobs for 15 years.

An unexpected turn came with a franchise business investment went south, leading me to step in, although we couldn’t salvage it. These experiences were instrumental in shaping my entrepreneurial path.

The decisive factor in starting REBL, however, was the passing of my father from cancer. His loss, coming just three months after his diagnosis and shortly into his retirement, was a profound personal challenge. It brought a stark realization of life’s unpredictability and the importance of seizing the moment. This was the catalyst that pushed me to overcome my fears of leaving a secure corporate job and pursue my aspiration of running my own business.

Taking this leap led to a serendipitous outcome: my former corporate employer became one of my first clients at REBL. This transition not only validated my decision but also marked the beginning of a new, fulfilling chapter in my professional life.

What should our readers know about your work?
As a small business owner and entrepreneur, my approach involves comprehensively understanding a client’s business objectives first. This understanding forms the foundation of the marketing strategies we develop to help clients achieve their goals. I’m also a certified StoryBrand guide, and we leverage a proven 7-Part framework to craft effective brand messaging and content. This includes emails, social media, marketing collaterals, lead magnets, and more, all tailored to meet our clients’

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If I had a friend visiting, I’d take them on a scenic tour along the coast, starting at Sunset Cliffs for its stunning ocean views and charming neighborhood ambiance. Next, we’d visit Ocean Beach to experience its unique San Diego vibe, complete with quirky shops, the iconic pier, tide pools, and classic fish tacos. Our journey would continue to Mission Beach for a fun ride on the rollercoaster, followed by a relaxing lunch and possibly a spa treatment at the Catamaran Resort Hotel in Pacific Beach. We’d then explore the Bird Rock area, admiring the beautiful homes and coastal walks. Our day would conclude with a visit to Windansea Beach, the perfect spot to wrap up our coastal adventure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I want to give a Shoutout to my Husband, Spencer Risty. https://www.linkedin.com/in/spencer-risty-2bb179118/ He’s my rock and cheerleader.  I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.
