We had the good fortune of connecting with Prisilla Weckesser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Prisilla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
You always hear those stories when someone created a great product and they have that “a-ha” moment. I had my “a-ha” moment after spending seven long weeks in the hospital during my second pregnancy. We have been using this magical spray on our daughter for three years and she hasn’t had a diaper rash since. I realized that it was a proven solution to preventing and treating diaper rash. Did we really create something worth marketing? That question was answered after a nurse who was changing our brand new baby boy’s diaper with “the butt spray” said… “Wow, this works great. You should bottle it.” That was our “a-ha” moment! That little moment gave us the inspiration and bravery to bring “the butt spray” to market. This magical spray has changed our entire diaper changing experience in a good way, and we wanted everyone else to experience the same.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We created “the butt spray” out of sheer desperation. For our daughter’s first four months of her life, she suffered from blistery red diaper rashes. It was horrible. Our experience forced us to search for a holistic approach. After carefully researching oils with anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties, the butt spray was born and it changed our lives forever. Her diaper rash never came back. Sure there were a lot of trial and errors in the beginning, but we perfected the solution and have changed our diaper changing experience. Leading up to our first test launch, my husband and I worked day and night researching and studying our new market and product. We just had a brand new baby, so to say that we were completely exhausted was an absolute understatement. I think our biggest challenge, which ended up taking the longest, was studying our market on Amazon. We needed to figure out things like how keywords worked and what would make our product competitive on Amazon. Fortunately our hard work paid off. The butt spray proved it would be a successful product after selling over 500 units on Amazon in 60 days. We couldn’t believe the amount of great feedback we received from the testimonies. After our successful first launch, we went back to the drawing board to see if Amazon really was going to be a good market place for our product. We truly believe in “the butt spray”. Since this spray had such a huge impact on our lives, it was important for us to market it the way we wanted to. We just didn’t have that much freedom on Amazon. So we decided to pivot and create our own store for “the butt spray” online. The butt spray is an organic solution to treating and preventing diaper rash. It is a DRY wipe system combined with a spray that fully cleans and soothes the skin. By getting rid of the wet wipes which are full of chemicals and adopting dry wipes with our spray, you can prevent and treat a diaper rash. Another nice component is that the combination of oils in the spray creates a barrier on the skin, so there is no need for ointments or creams. Everyday that we work on moving “the butt spray” forward, I realize that it is so important to have a clean product available for everyone. Products that are full of chemicals shouldn’t be the only option for our babies. We hope that our product sparks an interest and that everyone will experience the joy that “the butt spray” has brought to our family.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting our area, the first thing we would do is to take a tour through the wineries. We are lucky enough to have over 60 wineries right in our own backyard (Temecula). My favorite winery is Wilson Creek, so we would stop there first and work our way through. I would also be nice to get rent a beach house for the weekend in San Diego. We would go to the beach everyday, and then go out to dinner at Oceana Costal Kitchen for amazing king crab legs! Since I enjoy the outdoors so much, I feel like renting a couple of beach cruisers on the coast is the best way to see the beach towns.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people in my life that have inspired me and have helped me pursue my passions over the years. But the number one person that deserves all of the recognition is my husband, Kyle. I know that sounds cliche and maybe even a little bit corny. It’s true though. Kyle literally has always been my number one supporter in everything I have ever wanted to pursue. When it came to “the butt spray”, he was the most excited I had ever seen him when it came to starting a new business. New businesses are risky, and launching a new product can be terrifying. But he was already a believer because he knew it worked. With Kyle’s background in business and finance, we were able to have a successful first launch on Amazon. Now moving forward to our online platform, I’m confident Kyle will take us to the next level. Thank you babe!
