We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Reza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Priscilla, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is making decisions in the most authentic way possible. I take my creativity and thought and I use that to drive my business. Being authentic is what separates my brand from others. My thought process is kind of like “Anyone can make a candle but not everyone can make a candle the way I can ”. I definitely get inspiration based on what I love and what I think others might fall in love with. Focusing on my own goals and staying true to myself throughout this whole journey has been the drive to my success. By demonstrating authenticity I exhibit to my customers the worth and high quality of my products.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Golden Candles Co. apart from others is that I use 100% natural soy wax and clean fragrance oils in order to provide the best high quality products. Each and every candle and wax melt is hand poured and made in small batches in my home. Each product has a unique blend of fragrances made to ensure a luxurious experience. The aesthetic of our brand is made simple and tasteful in order to easily match anyone’s personal style. Aside from those facts, I completely let my products speak for themselves! A short version of my story is that I started this journey as a hobby during the pandemic after losing my job. Being home 24/7 became very difficult for me mentally and starting a business was the best thing I could have ever done! Experiencing the journey of being a business owner is what I am the most proud of. I had always wanted to start a business and candles really resonated with me because of my love for them. I don’t want to say it was easy because it has been really hard! BUT its not impossible! I overcame the challenges by moving forward no matter what. Somedays I felt like the sky was falling but I had to tell myself that it was going to be OKAY! Giving up has never been an option for me! Some lessons I have learned along the way is to stay true to myself and to focus my energy in always improving myself and my business! Something I would like to let the world know about is that I am a current student studying to become an Elementary Teacher and the way I care about children is the same way that I care about my business. It’s my little baby! My brand values the importance of mental health, self care, positivity, high quality products and the use of eco-friendly materials!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such a meaningful question because my boyfriend and I just bought our first house in SD last year! We have spent this past year trying to venture out and experience the best city in the world (I might be a little biased)! Both of us dreamed of living here before we even met one another, so it has been so fun and special experiencing it together. Because of the pandemic and closures we have yet to choose our favorite breakfast spot but If I were to have a friend in town visiting, here are my best San Diego recommendations: Little Italy is the perfect place to go because there is a ton of great restaurants and walking into a new place would be a fun experience! I am not a big coffee drinker but I am a sucker for a good bloody mary! After eating at a cute spot in Little Italy we would have to walk the famous Little Italy farmer’s market! As a business owner I love supporting others; you will see everything from food to plants to the most beautiful handmade items! After a long walk, what else do we need? WINE! We would stop by for a glass at Pali Wine Co. a few blocks down and enjoy their great outdoor atmosphere! After relaxing for a little while we would have to get take-out carne asada fries from Lolita’s while we visit Coronado beach and my absolute favorite, La jolla Shores! For a late night dinner we would go to Miguel’s cocina on Portside Pier, they have the best burritos, mango margaritas and a perfect view of the sunset! There is so much to do in San Diego and that would be the perfect day! There is definitely Downtown SD and Gaslamp Quarter to explore for the rest of the week!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give some recognition to my boyfriend and our families for supporting my business from the very start. They continue to be the ones who I go to when I need honest opinions on scents, names, designs, etc. The reason why their opinions are important to me is because they help me see my brand from a different perspective. An extra special shout out to my boyfriend. He sees all the ups and downs firsthand. He sees the behind the scenes; from the happy moments to the stressful ones! I can honestly say that without their support it would take me a lot longer to make final decisions. They honestly help me see the bigger picture and I can tell how proud they are of me and that truly is the best feeling!
