Meet Phillip Duong | Entrepreneur & Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Phillip Duong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phillip, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“The more happiness we bring to others, the happier we ourselves become.” – Daisaku Ikeda This quote is very meaningful to me because I believe it holds true in so many aspects of life. Whether it is with family, business, friends, or strangers, I guarantee you that 11 out of 10 times you will become happier by helping others. It will give you a genuine sense of gratitude when taking this quote to heart.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am so proud to say that Well Lean is one of the fastest growing shirataki food companies in the country. We currently specialize in plant based pastas and rice, uniquely formulating them to achieve only 5 calories and 2g of carbs per serving. What really sets us apart from others is the quality of our products and our excellent customer service. Our foods are delicious in any dish and provide such an easy way for people to eat healthy! We really want to help provide the world with delicious foods that help individuals maintain a healthy lifestyle. Ultimately, I got to where I am today by being consistent with creating goals and taking action to accomplish them. I would suggest writing them on paper to solidify your thoughts and to hold yourself accountable to where you want to be in the future. Sometimes it is not easy looking at your goals and seeing little progress, but I believe accountability is what enables us to grow. Challenges are the nature of doing business and it is important to know that all problems are solvable even when you think they are not. I have learned that having faith in yourself as well as in others will go a long way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we want to be tourists I would definitely have to show them the beach towns we have in San Diego. I would start off at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters for a fresh wake-me up, and ease our way into La jolla for some sun filled activities. For eateries we would be going out for some tacos. We have a ton of great local taco shops in town but I would recommend Tacos El Gordo, The Taco Stand, or Lucha Libre if you want that San Diego twist to your food. Now for the drinks? Although we have breweries around every corner, I would make sure we stop by the unique speakeasys we have around the city. From Downtown to La Jolla my top three would be Raised by Wolves, Realm Of The 52 Remedies, and Noble Experiment. All of their drinks are specially crafted and will not disappoint!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are definitely many people and books that I could give shout outs to, but I would like to wholeheartedly thank my team. They are really the most important factor behind the success of Well Lean. A great brand is truly the reflection of the team and it has been such an incredible journey growing the business with them.
