We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Dunlap and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was tired of the volatility of the software industry and wanted to finally do my own thing. I’ve never been afraid of hard work and this was my chance to see the hard work truly pay off. It was a chance to follow my passion and to see if I could be successful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In addition to working on bikes, running my own business, and trying to find time for my kids… I enjoy writing! I’ve written short stories, poems, songs, and essays. Some might be ok and the rest are less than. But its a release for me just like riding a bike is a release. I have discovered that I’m a work-a-holic so focusing back on the artistic side of me is good therapy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends have visited in the past we mix in cycling to exploring the North County of San Diego. A style of cycling that began a while ago and took hold a few years back, is Gravel Riding. This type of bike enables you to ride well on the road and then jump off on any trail that you want. So, I love to take friends on adventure rides and see what we can find. This area still has wildlife (coyotes, quail, rabbits, snakes, deer, butterflies, bees, etc. When you jump off on trails you are out in nature and the world becomes alive. So many things to see and experience and that’s why I take friends Gravel riding.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Shoutout goes to my long-term customers that have stuck with me, through good times and not so good. Now in the midst of a pandemic, my customers are showing incredible support. Without the dedication and loyalty of my customers, this would not be possible.
