We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Diede and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say what has made my business so successful is that New Day is a community of athletes/ families built around positivity and a unique style of training. It is an undeniable fact that youth athletes burn out quickly if they are not in an environment that supports them mentally as well as physically. I have so many athletes that attend my classes and camps that have lost their love for the game of soccer because of team practices that don’t inspire them or allow them to evolve as an athlete. Or they have coaches that have nothing positive to say about who they are as a player. New Day was built around the idea that the most important skills an athlete can learn are developing creative confidence and self motivation with the help of trainers that care about who their students are as a person 1st and an athlete 2nd.
What should our readers know about your business?
Getting to where I am today with my business was not easy but it certainly was interesting. I moved to California for a job I hated and worked there for years always feeling unfulfilled and uninspired. I had taken a break from anything involving soccer after a very successful soccer career up to that point and realized that soccer had to be my path forward. I started training athletes after work and slowly grew my business and left my miserable corporate job. A few years later I had the amazing opportunity to open an indoor soccer facility called Momentum Training Center. Over three years it grew into a well known center that helped thousands of athletes until Covid hit and changed everything. I unfortunately had to close the doors and that chapter of my life in 2020. I took this time to really think about what was important to me and realized that the soccer facility was just 4 walls and that what we created there could carry on outside of them. It was a crazy moment when I realized that sometimes in life what you think you want is not always what you are designed for. I knew I needed to stay positive because that had always been what I preached to my athletes and that is how New Day Soccer began.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Having grown up in Colorado things here in California are still so incredible to me after having lived here the past 14 years. If my best friend was visiting the area we would for sure hit up The Taco Stand in Encinitas and then head to the beach to surf or check out an SD Loyals or San Diego Wave FC soccer game.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to My athletes: who show up each New Day with goals and ambitions for their soccer journey and trust in me and my coaches to help get them there.
My trainers: Who share my vision and whole-heartedly believe in the philosophy of New Day.
My high school soccer coach: Jim Davidson who taught me that as a coach – your players will ALWAYS remember how you made them feel.
