We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nia, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Only the strong survive” I honestly got the concept from my favorite basketball player, Allen Iverson. I know where the quote is said to have derived from, but I made it my own. To me, it’s simple, one must show strength even at their weakest moments. Through experience I have come to an understanding that all things are possible, if you stick with the process. I believe that our thoughts are extremely powerful and strength is mental before it is anything else.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It sounds cliche, but since I was a child I knew I was special. I knew I was different. At that young age I couldn’t put my finger on it, but it was a feeling I had. As I grew older that feeling became more evident and through writing, which developed into music, I was able to express myself.
At this moment in my life, I’m excited about my new album “InsomNia.” I genuinely believe it is my best body of work to date.
To reach my level of success I had stay true to myself. I had to dedicate myself. Then when times got hard, I had to push myself. This process wasn’t easy at all, but I knew it would be beneficial to not only myself, but my loved ones.
I want the world to know I’m here to stay and that Nia Mack will become a household name.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My itinerary would start by picking my friend up from the airport, and immediately going to the taco shop. No not a Mexican restaurant, a taco shop. There is a big difference. It is one of San Diego’s staples, and a must have. I’d order for my friend, a choice between three rolled tacos, a California burrito, or carne asada fries. Thank me later. We’d have to hit the beach, most likely Ocean Beach or Pacific beach, depending on the mood. Which would lead to the various shops, street vendors, and bars in the area. I’d end the day downtown in the famous Gaslamp Quarter. That’s where the best nightlife in San Diego lives. Sometime during the trip I’d have to bring my friend to the recording studio with me, that’s a whole vibe in itself. Some sessions literally last all day. This would give my friend a chance to see me in my element. These are a few of the things we would do here in San Diego.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s only right for me to dedicate my shoutout to my late mother, Dana Lea Muhammad. She taught me everything I know. See, the best teacher is one that can teach without the student even recognizing they are being taught. That’s a gift that deserves more credit than it’s given,
