We had the good fortune of connecting with Myra Hollis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myra, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think about risk as a chance to bet on yourself. I took a risk in my life when I developed my non profit FEM Scholar and podcast Black Womxn Healing Pod. The chance I took with both of these is if it would be received by people. My first time taking a risk was with FEM Scholar and I am beyond happy I did because it pushes me to pursue other passions and that is how the podcast was birthed.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel that I do so many different things I never know what to focus on ( lol). I feel that what sets me apart from others is my desire to make sure in all that I do that I have some type of follow up or connection is built rather it be through my non profit work or the podcast. I guess you could say that for my theraputic work also. Most recently I created a journal with self prompts that will be on Amazon on Feb 26th; this is what I am most proud of because it gives folks a tool to work on their healing independently. I got to where I am today by betting on myself and taking risks in all of my desires. It was far from easy but I overcame challenges by tapping within myself and doing a lot of affirming. My main lesson I have learned is that any dream I have can become a reality. What I want the world to know about my brand is that its purpose is to serve other to build community. I think of community is that additional support you need and you see that even in my guided journal. You have to check it out to understand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start with a smoothie from Señor Mangoes, everything is good, we would then head to a park down the street that has a nice view of the city. After hanging out there for a few hours we would rent bikes at mission beach and then head to lunch shortly after on the board walk. We would wind down at sunset cliffs to watch the sunset. The next day we would hike up cowled mountain and grab brunch at Red Door, we would then rome around that neighborhood to shop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to a previous co worker who has become a best friend to me. Here name is Sarah Wright she is a art therapist. I want to dedicate my shout out to her because she has been influential and helping bring creativity to my ideas through her art. She works hard with support of families in her trauma work. Overall amazing and inspirational.
