We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikey Kettinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikey, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
There is no ‘give up’ for me. Being an artist is who I am. My purpose. There’s no giving up, but there has to be willingness to adjust, evolve and learn.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m very excited to deeply explore my conceptual painting series that illustrates interpretations of advertising and data collection. It’s rare and special to develop a new spin on the tradition of something as classic as painting, but I am on a fun path of adding something very relevant and engaging to the contemporary art conversation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The greatest part of SoCal is the climate and landscape. Everything I show visitors revolves around interacting with nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My graduate advisor Mark Lee Koven directly recruited me to pursue a masters of fine art, and he inspired me to believe in my talent and work ethic unconditionally. I am forever grateful to him for believing in me.
