We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Finestone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our objective is to create the cleanest, purest and freshest almond mulk for our San Diego community. Nutritious AND delicious is our jam, and we achieve this through ingredient selection and process. While the process is simple, there are many steps involved and we use some badass equipment that gets every bit of goodness out of the almond! Almost every ingredient we use is in its raw state, and comes directly from plants. We help the community by providing them with a dairy-alternative milk that can either be delivered right to their doorstep with local delivery or by picking up at local farmers markets.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career started out as a commercial interior designer. I worked for companies that provided turn-key solutions including everything from designs to handling the project management until move-in ready. When I moved to the States is when I shifted gears. After I kept landing jobs working for food companies, I realized early on that the arena of natural food and beverages was my destiny. The Mulk Co was incepted during a marketing class while pursuing my Degree in Business Entrepreneurism at CSU San Marcos. Many times, I was able to draw upon experiences and knowledge from the Interior Design world while creating and building The Mulk Co–an important one being the layout design of our new commercial kitchen to maximize production efficiency.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
North County has a hidden treasure, and its called the Moonlight Theater! On many a warm, summer evenings, you will find my husband and I with friends picknicking under the stars, watching an excellent musical production. Some other places for visitors includes a walk on the Oceanside Pier, having lunch at The Yellow Deli, going for coffee to Revolution Roasters and of course, visiting all the local farmers markets!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my husband! If giving up watching football on Sundays to work farmers markets with me is not support in its purest form, then I don`t know what is! He has continued to be incredible in his encouragement, 24/7.
