We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariana Pereira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariana, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“You are enough”, three little words that hold so much meaning. I love that this quote is so simple, yet so complex and it can mean anything to anyone. You are enough for that job, you are enough for that relationship, etc. Authenticity is the root of life. We are all different and we need to be more accepting of ourselves, reminding once again that “I am enough”. You are everything it takes and your past does not define YOU. Be thankful for your struggles because they’ve taught you strength. Be thankful for your body because it is your home. Be thankful for the bad things in life because they open your eyes to the good that you wouldn’t have payed attention to before. Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to be like right now and genuinely appreciating it for everything that it is. You deserve to be loved and respected because you will always be enough. Every time I read this quote, it makes me stop and think. Sometimes in a world so chaotic, all we need is a little silence to remind ourselves of how far we’ve come and how we owe it to ourselves to be happy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To be where I am today definitely took patience and it was not easy. There were times when I believed someone else could be doing a better job than me. I turned that thought into, “I’m here right now and I’m going to give it everything I have because if I don’t, I am only cheating myself”… it lead to me having two raises in less than 3 months. Working hard and being rewarded is an amazing feeling, but working hard and knowing your worth on your own is even better. Often times we look for validation from those around us to feel like we are doing a great job, but we don’t thank ourselves. I learned to really appreciate my body and mind for keeping me up as it is truly a blessing. I learned to be confident and proud of my work, knowing I gave it my all. I learned to be patient because I believe everything happens for a reason. I learned to speak up even when it felt like fear was getting the best of me. I was scared of saying the wrong thing or embarrassing myself, I needed to constantly remind myself that fear is temporary. Fear is nothing more than an obstacle that gets in the way of growth. I now take on everyday confident and with pride, knowing I will never be able to relive today again. Always giving my all.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For food, there are so many great places to try! First, to get our morning started, we could go to Breakfast Republic, Everbowl, or Denny’s. For lunch, some of my favorite places are Board and Brew, Tacos El Gordo, or Epic Wings and Things. Now dinner is where all of the fun starts. Korean BBQ, Homestyle Hawaiian, Hodads, etc. Dessert? Baked Bear! There is such a wide variety of food here in San Diego and I love it! I am a very adventurous person so I love being busy outside! One of the first activities we would do is Go Karting! Just a little friendly competition while drifting on a track. I would also want us to go to Barona to responsibly gamble and enjoy their buffet of course. Other activities I would love for us to do is ride bird scooters around Downtown! I have done it a couple of times and every time it gets better. You can go so far without ever realizing because you’re just having fun with your friends. In San Diego, it’s obvious to want to go to the beach, but not always. I’d love to take them to Torrey Pines where they have a beautiful hike right along the beach or Sunset Cliffs to watch a sunset! The best places in San Diego to check out would be Mount Soledad, Kate O. Sessions Park, Torrey Pines, Seaport Village, etc. The views from all of these places are amazing and remind me of the beautiful city I live in every time! Although I love adventure, I love to be home too. It doesn’t matter if we are just enjoying conversation or watching movies, I like being around the people who love me and make me feel comfortable!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is the reason I push myself to never give up. They have always supported me and made me accept failure as a lesson, not baggage. They remind me that not everyday is promised so we must love each other and be kind to everyone. My siblings (Isabel, Karina, Carlos, and Daniel) are more than my family, they are my best friends. I am beyond blessed to be able to speak about the strengths of my family because I know this situation is not the same for everyone. Without my family, I honestly don’t know where my mindset would be. Another thing that definitely deserves some recognition, music. I can rely on music in any given situation. Where my words would fail, music would speak. It brings me genuine peace listening to my favorite artists. When i’m getting a good workout in, music. When i’m not feeling too good, music. When I want to get focused and start working, music. It really never fails and has helped me through so much more than anyone could comprehend.
