We had the good fortune of connecting with Mari P and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mari, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process started when I was asking myself “How can I support myself doing something I love?” in 2021.

I was currently living in Guatemala in an off the grid community called Fungi Academy, and I got inspired by so many creators in the spiritual community around me. I have been to Yoga retreats before and I teach Yoga, but how can I make it different? how do I want to impact the world and help others heal? it’s more than just Yoga, it’s a mystic path of things I learned along my healing journey.

One day sitting at a friends place during sunset over looking a volcano, at a place where everything seemed possible, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. This is it. This is where I will pull the trigger and follow my heart with this idea. The idea of starting a Journey/Retreat business.

First step was to set an Intention, what I wanted to create, and how. I talked to a few people about it, and it was totally possible to make it happen, so the rest is becoming history. Now I am currently already having two other retreats in the works. Co Creating with people I met in my travels.

I incorporated Yoga and Meditation and different healing practices, how we relate with the elements and nature around us, how can we feel the healing within us and apply to our lives when we go back to our own realities after a profound experience.? That’s is why I created The Mystic Flow, Journeys that reflect my life’s experiences into one place.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I usually say LIVING is my art. I never settled for the 9-5 job. I worked in the event industry for over 8 years, and even doe sometimes you are working long days and hours, it was most contract work. I made my own schedule and I loved being in the event space, face to face with humans and real connections. I learned a lot. Until one day I asked myself, what I am doing this for? money? what is the purpose? I wanted to work more meaningful jobs. The pandemic was my way out, my industry was dead. During the pandemic in 2020, I moved to a farm in Maine, then after to an off the grid permaculture farm in Costa Rica called Punta Mona in 2021, and end up in Guatemala, where my creativity into creating The Mystic Flow came to fruition.

I had lived in different farms, and was exposed to so many creators, healers, and people just living life differently that I ever experienced, I was forever changed by living in community. I learned how to cook food from farm to table, I learned permaculture, I did a Herbalism course, I was teaching Yoga and Meditation for people from all over the world, I experienced living off the grid, I learned how to grow mushrooms, I was very simply, I walked barefoot everywhere, I did not had a car or had to drive anywhere for work, It was the first time I felt I was really LIVING.

Everything started back in 2017 I decided to work on myself first, I did a Yoga Teacher Training in San Clemente, CA, not thinking I wanted to teach, more to learn about the history of Yoga and improve my own practice, but as soon as I was half way trough the training, I knew I wanted to teach. I started teaching Yoga locally and finding places to teach while I was traveling, Bali, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico….It has been a long journey and I am still figuring it out to be honest.

Ive learned to trust the process and not rush into a final goal or destination, great things takes time to be created, and I have nothing to prove to anyone, not even myself. Mistakes are necessary so you know what to do and not what to do as you improve into your project.

I have been diagnosed with ADHD in my 20’s and I was prescribed 70mg Adderal, which was really bad for me, and I almost believed I needed it to function in society. I am so happy that I knew I had the power to be in control of my life without depending on a pill. I started finding alternative methods that helped me understand how my brain works, awareness of meditation practices, the movement of Yoga, the help of different plan medicines, and being surrounded my Kind Humans.

When I moved to Central America in 2021, I sold all my things, and just went for it, with the pursuit of finding my flow and purpose. I love teaching Yoga, but I also love creating, creating Journeys/Retreats.

Being completely stripped away from society in nature, my creativity was flourishing, that’s is how I put my first 10 day Yoga Retreat in another Country by myself, doing all the preparation, marketing, organization, I never thought it was possible, until I did it.

The Mystic Flow Journeys/Retreats is “MY LIFE IS MY MESSAGE” is a time you spend with me and others I am co-creating with, for healing and learning about ourselves and the collective. It’s a mix of Yoga, Adventures, Activities, going beyond the narrow life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a week long trip I would take them Trilogy Sanctuary for a yoga class and some amazing vegan food, and after a swim or surf session in La Jolla, Wind and the Sea specifically.

Visit little Italy for some amazing food and walk around downtown and scooter around to see all the people.

Visit Coronado Island.

Check out Sunset Cliffs.

Go ride bikes at Pacific Beach.

Surf in Encinitas at Swamis and check out Buzzed Coffee.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person that needs my acknowledge is my friend and teacher, Kelly Doyle, she has devoted her life to teach others about Yoga Living along with the teachings of Shiva Rae. I met Kelly while working a front desk job at a Yoga Studio in San Clemente, California, immediately I felt connected to her and her spirit of Joy and Kindness. I signed up for her Yoga Teacher Training in 2017, and have done over 300 hours of Yoga Studies with her, I feel so blessed to have such a connection with my teacher and also learning from the best.
I was going trough a recent divorce, moved to a new city, and I was feeling so lost in my path, Kelly and her spirit were honey to my Soul. I felt seen, empowered, and courageous to leave the old me behind, and become a new person and how I want to keep living my life.
