We had the good fortune of connecting with Marci Brantveyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marci, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most people are unaware that I’m a single employee run business and run my business inside my home. I do not have a physical location where people come and visit the bakery, though it is a dream of mine. Outsiders also do not realize that currently my cookies are by request only, however there are special designs available on my website for the upcoming seasons or holidays. In the future, I’m working on having more designs available for purchase with out the need for a custom request.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud of my art, because it’s not something that you can hang on a wall. You could if you wanted but it might not last. I love that I can create something special for someone as part of a party or event that makes them go WOW! I can use my artistic talents towards my baking skills and create something truly beautiful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them on a tour of some of my favorite places to go to enjoy a moment of San Diego’s beautiful scenery along with some of the tastiest food. We’d start our day having brunch at Kindred, located in South Park. They have phenomenal food and cocktails, and the classy rocker vibe is right up my ally. Then I would take them for a walk down by Mission Bay where we’d watch all the locals enjoying what the bay has to offer. At the end of the day, I’d take them to our go to coffee shop, Birdrock off Morena, and say hi to our friends over at that location.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to my amazing husband Matt. He’s supported me through this journey, allowing me to follow my dreams and create this business from scratch. He’s my go to cookie tester for new recipes and always gives his honest opinion when I’m working on a design. It helps me step back and see what others may see when I may have overlooked something. I very grateful for his support and his love.
