We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggie, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is that I absolutely LOVE what I do. Finally, after years of working in corporate America for one of the largest multimedia companies in the world, I discovered my true gifts and they sure didn’t include Maggie in high heels and a suit! Now I am able to marry my interest in serving the community along with my previous writing and marketing experience and truly make a difference with what I do. To be successful in any business, it probably goes without saying but you have to have a passion and commitment to the work you are doing. Listen to your intuition, take time to get still and ask the question “How am I best suited to use my gifts and talents to serve humanity.” True and meaningful success comes from living a life of meaning and purpose and understanding that it’s really not about a paycheck. If you live a life of purpose, the money will naturally follow. Too many of us are living in survival mode hoping to find happiness “out there” somewhere; in a bigger home, a nicer car, a new girlfriends, job or something else of material significance. The problem with that is that once you attain the “things,” you find that you are no happier than you were before you had them. As a Western culture, we have bought into the materialistic way of living to our own detriment. Instead of arriving on our deathbeds excited about what we’ve contributed to the world with our lives, too many of us look back on our lives and ask “is that all there is?” With any luck, we’ll awaken during our lifetimes soon enough to shift our personal trajectory and find fulfillment using our talents.
What should our readers know about your business?
After earning my Meditation Certification from the Chopra Center for Wellbeing in 2016, that very next day I opened Satsang House Meditation and Spiritual Center. My motto is to create world peace one person at a time. Lofty goal to be sure but if even one of us can awaken and bring peace and tolerance to the world, it will spread like COVID-19 in a crowded room!! In my fifth year now, I’d say this has been the year where all of my hard work has begun to pay off. It hasn’t been easy and has come at a high cost. Being an entrepreneur is no small task to be sure. On a personal level, having my own business, managing people, advertising, public relations, the creative side of my business and the voice of my brand has been the most challenging yet rewarding aspects of my learning curve so far. Throughout these years, because I am a spiritual teacher, it has been of utmost importance for me to maintain my lifelong commitment to continue to grow spiritually and learn all the time. This is perhaps one of the most rewarding parts of my business ; staying in the conversation, learning all the time and using what I learn to continually upgrade my teachings, I have just completed my Certification in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Nalanda Institue for Contemplative Sciences. This added dimension of my work has allowed me to add spiritual life coaching to my brand. I am now able to weave the Eastern spiritual traditions with Western philosophy and psychology. I’ll never stop learning! The world needs spiritual guidance and awakening now more than ever. If I can contribute even one small thing to that, I will have lived an extraordinary life!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d have to say that the most influential person on my path as been renowned spiritual teacher Deepak Chopra. I spent about a decade immersed in his spiritual teachings and ultimately became a Chopra Center Certified Meditation Instructor long before meditation became a “thing” because. of his influence. Along with Deepak, I’d have to say that the work of Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chodron and Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche have been a great influence to my spiritual growth and path as well as informed my spiritual teachings now. I send a heartfelt shoutout as well to the Venerable Zawa Tulku Rinpoche, recognized as a reincarnated lama in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He spent 30 years studying with some of the greatest teachers of Tibetan Buddhism in the monasteries in India. Rinpoche has been the spiritual director for the past 15 years at Tsongkhapa Meditation Center in Canada. www.meditationtsongkhapa.org
