We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucy Williamson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucy, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind Rootflage’s success is our customer service and putting our customers first.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rootflage is a temporary root touch-up powder that I created 9 years ago out of need. I am a bottle blonde. Back 9 years ago a rooted blonde look was nowhere near in style. Seeing my natural roots grow drove me crazy. But I couldn’t afford the upkeep of getting my hair highlighted every 4 weeks. I started looking around for solutions. I was shocked that no such product existed that actually worked for blondes to help extend the time between salon appointments. So I invented it! Rootflage was originally created for blondes to temporarily conceal their regrowth between salon appointments, but after a while, I realized a good root touch-up is something that would benefit anyone who colored their hair. So Rootflage expanded our color line to over 30 colors offering multiple shades for red-heads, brunettes, blondes to silver or pink, or blue, and so on. We are happy to be an inclusive color line. I have gotten to where I am by putting one foot in front of the other and never giving up. Even when I really wanted to. For me being an entrepreneur can be exhilarating, but equally frustrating and discouraging at times. But the best thing an entrepreneur can do is learn from the frustrations and improve any way you can. What gets me the most excited about my brand is connecting with my customers and helping them solve whatever their hair dilemma is. How people feel about their hair is important, and when a customer is happy with their results because of Rootflage it absolutely makes my day!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in San Clemente, and it is a great town, but very sleepy. We would be hitting the beach daily. I would be sure to take them to a few of my favorite restaurants in town like the Vine, South of Nicks, and Fig 313, and Aloha Acai Bowls. I would also make sure we had at least one bonfire at the beach as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my friend Alysa Lobo who has been a constant in this journey.
