We had the good fortune of connecting with Geraldine Lapid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Geraldine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to start my own business in invitations and paper stationery due to the demand and need I found when designing for numerous family and friends. Everyone was interested in personalized stationery and my creativity took afloat. I started designing and doing things I liked, I knew I had to pursue. It was a working progress for many years and while I wish it bloomed overnight, it took years of dedication and hard work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love being creative and thinking outside of the box. I’m a self taught designer where I showcase my style through paper. My design is a reflection of who I am…. simple, but fun! I love personalization and believe everyone should be able to have something that has a reflection of their style too. I think that’s what sets me apart from others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although not a San Diego native, I call San Diego home. There’s so much to do and see here, I feel like a tourist in my own city. The beach is a favorite place of mine. Del Mar, Torrey Pines, Mission Beach and Coronado are places I visit often. I love exploring new places and hiking at different spots. Having young kids, we love to explore different parks and visit kid fun places such as Balboa Park, Seaport Village and Old Town. We also love finding new area around town which are suppose to be “hidden secrets.” Food is my past time and although I like trying new places, I have a love for Lolitas, Shanghai Saloon, The Crack Shack, Guahan Grill and Din Tai Fung. I love some good drinks, too and luckily there are many to choose from. Some of my favorite places to get drinks are Tom Cat Bar (they have the BEST chicken wings), Bali Hai, Gravity Heights, Orfillia Winery, Ballast Point and Saint Archer Brewery. San Diego has my heart and I feel lucky to call it home.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I recognize that success is how you build it and how hard you work to achieve your goals, but I also believe support and encouragement is the driving force behind it all. I struggled when starting my business, as it was no easy task researching, operating, assembling and facilitating the orders coming in. My husband was an attributing factor guiding and supporting me throughout so that I can push through and he even stepped in with production responsibilities. We became a team in the business and I’m forever grateful.
