We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucas Roelen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucas, how do you define success?
I define success very simply. Most would think it’s the amount of money, fame, or glory one attains, however, I think of success, not as something you can count on with a number. Success to me is doing what you love and want to do every single day and not giving up on it. Eventually, if you stick a something for long enough, all the rewards will come. But if you do what you love every single day without giving up, you are already a success. Most people don’t even think doing what they love will amount to anything, but how wrong they are.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To start, I am nowhere even close to where I know I can attain, by I am most definitely gaining results and on the way. My goal is to be a very respected and influential actor and producer/filmmaker in film, television, and new media. I think that the way we obtain entertainment is changing very rapidly, and Hollywood needs the new tools and visions from people of my generation to pave the way. This is what I am determined to be the trailblazer of. I know I can act, but I want to bring more value than just on-screen talent. I also understand the business side of productions, that’s what makes me a double threat. The biggest obstacle I face now, which most people starting off in this business is, is getting the right attention to the projects I have done and the ones I am in production of. Nonetheless, with enough passion and vision, this obstacle won’t be for long.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s hard to pick one, San Diego is basically entirely a gem. If I had to pick a few spots I think the first would be Del Mar. I love the cliffs and the beaches specifically there, so definitely will take someone there. Also, Carlsbad village, as I am from Carlsbad, so I know I gotta show someone around that entire area. Downtown San Diego is essential as well. When we are down there I’ll show them around the convention center and Seaport Village, that place is like a dream.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really owe what I do and why I love to do it, to my parents, Lonnie and Scott Roelen. My parents support me all the way through and continue to support me to this day. I can also argue that their parenting was incredible in bringing me up and allowing me to have the creative vision and hunger that I do today. I am nowhere close to where I know I can attain, but I always know my parents are behind me every step.
