We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Mendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe that being a Pet Stylist is the best of two of my favorite worlds: dogs and art. I love helping pups look and feel good with the help of my creative eye. Dyeing dog’s hair is really fun too!
What should our readers know about your business?
The most exciting aspect of opening my own business is that it feels like the culmination of everything I’ve learned from working in various parts of the pet industry for the past five years. Every career change has had its challenges, but I have managed to push through and always end up learning something new about myself and what I want out of life. My rescue pup, Olive, has been the driving force through all of it. She’s my best friend, my confidante, my inspiration to do what I love– which is why I named my business after her (Olive, My Love Dog Grooming). Olive is also spoiled rotten and prefers all the attention be on her, which is what I am able offer to my clients in the form of private dog grooming. My groom room is the perfect size for me to groom one pup at time and focus on making their groom experience as comfortable as possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I make it a point take any friend or relative visiting from out of town to Crazeeburger in North Park. Crazeeburger has been my favorite burger spot since I moved to San Diego for their consistency and damn good fries. For scenery, Balboa Park is always on the list and Cowles Mountain for a good hike. All of these places are dog-friendly, which is important because Olive is usually tagging along.
