We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is a must. I am a full time working mother of 9-year old triplets. I addition, I do comedy and just recently have taken up acting. I have to balance my work, kids and husband…oh yeah, and my own mental health through it all. I give my all to my family, but also make time for myself on a regular basis. In March 2020, I decided to retire from my full time job of 25 years to have more time with my husband and kids. This decision also gave me more time to do me! More time to act, do comedy and spend time with friends. Best thing I’ve done in a long time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have wanted to be a comedian since I was in high school. It wasn’t until I gave birth to triplets at 44 years old that I really got started, I guess I needed a push. I hit the stage in 2016, and literally did not stop. I was incredibly blessed by the San Diego comedy scene, who continually gave me opportunities to take the stage and create a space for laughter to happen. I wasn’t always easy only in that some stages are scarier than others. I’m almost always nervous; which means I care about the funny I put out. I’m a family friendly funny mother of triplets. At 53, I’m ready to take on this new venture with everything I’ve got. It’s never too late, so get started and do what you’ve always wanted to do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We have some of the nicest beaches, we’d start there; lunch with a beach view. We have nice restaurants and a lively down town, so we would do a bit of bar hopping and eat at a nice Italian place with a view of the party scene. I’d take her on a Harbor Excursion around the bay. We’d go to the world famous San Diego Zoo and splash around Sea World. We have Cabrio Monument, and Balboa Park that has great museums and theaters. We would go see a movie at one of the dinner and a movie fancy theaters too. I’m a good “take you around town kinda gal”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Fortunately for me I have so many wonderful people in my life who support me. I’d like to thank the San Diego Comedy Scene for loving on me and giving me stage time.
