We had the good fortune of connecting with Kryssy Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kryssy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I consider taking risks I have to think about it different ways. Naturally, my first thoughts are all the great and possible things that will happen. Next thoughts of comparison creep in along with what will “they ” think. Lastly I think of all possible repercussions. After spending time going through the motions I remember that as long as I’m doing what makes me happy then taking risks on myself will always be worth it.
Taking risks has made me more confident which is the biggest role it’s played in my life and career. For my career it has pushed me to be Certified Nurse Assistant and further my education plus skills to becoming a registered nurse. Besides from being a full time employee, and nursing student I’m also a beauty lover. Personally I took a risk on wanting to share my journey of learning, growing and glowing through beauty and lifestyle with some adventure along the way. That’s not easy because in a way I’m giving people access to me. Here’s where I consider those repercussions. Not everything always works out but I can say I did it for me and that what matters.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started A Dose of Kryssy back in 2017 wanting to share my journey of learning, growing, and glowing through beauty and plus-size lifestyle. As a full time employee, nursing student and beauty lover I want to organically show my journey. What sets me apart is adding value to people’s life by being relatable and sharing helpful tactics and information. Nothing gets me more excited then being able to share my favorite and new makeup and skincare products with my audience. Also I love sharing parts of lifestyle like fashion, a new item, or a places to visit. Professionally I am still learning but so far it has taken a lot of consistency and time away. Being consistent builds discipline but burnout happens to so its necessary to take time away not just to relax but also re-strategize if needed. Nothing worth having comes easy and its not easy all the time. There are times when it gets hard and it’s not fun but those are the days you have to dig deep and remember why you started. The biggest lessons I’ve learned was I need to be myself, be consistent and disciplined with small opportunities so when big ones arrive I know what to do and how to maneuver. I also realized that if I don’t bet on myself then who would? I want the world to know that with A Dose of Kryssy as long as they’re willing to learn and grow they’ll glow through life and we can trailblaze together.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For week long trip I’d start off with sightseeing during the week. We’ll take a nice walk around Balboa park, visit museums and take a ferry across the bay to catch lunch at Coronado brewery. We would also plan to visit some hot spots like Barrio Logan, The Embarcadero, North Park, Hillcrest, Pacific beach to get a feel for San Diego life. Towards the weekend we’d visit Clairemont to get some Korean BBQ or ramen. Saturday we’re downtown baby! Lets bar crawl in Gaslamp and end the night at a hookah lounge with some great music. Sunday we’ll go to the farmers and brunch market in Little Italy then catch dinner at a Black owned restaurant for that good soul food or enjoy some authentic Mexican food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanted to dedicate this shout out to my mom, family friends and supporters.
