We had the good fortune of connecting with Leel Michelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Pursuing an Artistic career was always intentional. To an Artist creating is much like needing food to nourish or oxygen to breath; it is a neccesity. People have different gifts and mine is to see life through a different set of lenses and create to inspire joy and beauty. I am also gifted with ambition which allows me to turn my love of creating into different business opportunities to fund my lifestyle and eventually become a philanthropist to inspire others to live their dreams.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Although I run a couple of businesses; my art and design is the common thread that runs within them. Starting a business is a vehicle I use to make a living so that I can ultimately create products to feed the insatiable Artist within. I like to explore a small niche that needs a little polish and new perspective that is scalable. The challenge of creating and bringing to life an idea is the most exciting aspect for most Entreprenuers! What sets me apart from others is my creativity, commitment to my projects, and enthusiasm. With my dog bakery; there have been many more hurdles than I ever anticipated. At times I’ve felt like throwing in my apron but then I receive such amazing support from clients, friends, and family that believe in me even in those quiet moments when I have doubted myself. Although I did not anticipate being inspirational to young, budding entreprenuers; I do honor the role to pass on the few nuggest of wisdom I have gained in my endeavors.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting I’d take them to my home in the country. I live in Ramona and have a small menagerie of animals that are sweet and fun! There are a couple of great restauraunts; wineries, and animal rescues and activations nearby. I’d eventually take them to La Jolla to see the seals and pictureque ocean views while having a cocktail at a hotel nearby. I would then take them to Balboa Park and perhaps the San Diego Zoo or Wild Animal Park. A cocktail and apps on the rooftop of Mr. A’s would be a MUST as I adore that view! Another day I’d have to show them the unbelievable view of the water and city going over the Coronado bridge that would lead us to a leisurly stroll by Hotel Del with many great dining options nearby. I would also take them to Little Italy for some fabulous Italian food and Pop Pops for dessert! I could not let my BFF leave San Diego without a fun jaunt to Tijuana for some great Mexican food and perhaps a VIP wine tour!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am eternally greatful to my family that has helped support my dreams since I was young. In the latter part of my life I must give thanks to my Husband, Stan. My husband is quite supportive of just about all my endeavors. He knows when I need the brakes applied and is always there when I need him most. Early in our dating he willfully helped me with my business during a “pop-up shop” for a Christmas event. He helped me set up, break down, and sell at that event. In 1 weekend of all the trials a couple goes through in such a venture; he made it through like a champ. Those experiences can challenge the best of friends so the fact that he stuck it out and supported me all weekend impressed me enough to still be with him 3 homes, 25 chickens, a rooster, 4 turkeys, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 sheep, 2 pigs, and 8 years later!
