We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Guss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would definitely have to say selflessness. There is nothing more that I care about than providing results to the members here at the San Diego Meditation center. I had learned from my meditation guides when I had just started, what it meant and what it takes to serve others. For most of my life I had always been in a care taking role. However, because I had the thought that I was doing something for others, I over time developed resentment/bitterness towards others and victim mentality. I learned through this meditation practice how to self reflect and let go so I can live without ‘self’ or ‘ego’. I genuinely enjoy my work and enjoy helping others now. It definitely has brought the community here closer; to me thats a success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I had come to San Diego almost 2 years ago to help out this location build up the foundation temporarily. I feel really fortunate to my co-worker who knew about COVID-19 long before the news started talking about it. We had already started asking people to wash their hands when they would come into the center. Also, we were already taking meditators’ temperatures long before of any talk about doing so on the news. It was hard for people to understand at that time what we were doing. Some people even thought we were crazy, but we just continued with what we knew would be right and safe despite the reactions we received. We also continued to educate our meditation members to stay safe and be how they could protect themselves. We ended up closing our physical location quite early before lockdown and had transitioned to online classes via Zoom. During this time, I built a website, online store, and partnered with OnlineMeditationEvents.com to offer free guided meditation classes to the community.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them hiking or to the beach. Definitely we would have some Korean BBQ, maybe some Pho, drink some Kombucha and watch the sun set every night! I haven’t seen much of San Diego, to be quite honest, since I am working most of the time. The gym is my fun spot!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank the staff at OnlineMeditationEvents.com. OnlineMeditationEvents partnered with multiple meditation centers around the US in efforts to create an online platform offering guided meditation free to the public when COVID-19 first hit. I have learned so much from collaborating with them. It really helped to expand my consciousness to see the bigger picture of things and also understand and accept others more. Since collaborating with OnlineMeditationEvents.com we have partnered with multiple companies such as Twitter, Spanx, Square, Kendra Scott, even Tae Bo Billy Blanks and a few influencers! We also recently had a World Meditation Event through Zoom with almost 1,000 participants!
