We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Cheadle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I grew up in a very musical family. My father, James Cheadle is a legendary piano player and producer so my life has always been intertwined with music. I am also a very creative person so I could never be in a career that lacks creativity. I was blessed with the ability to be able to sing and play instruments so this was a very natural process to become who I am.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music has always been about the joy of making it. When I was 10, I started my first band with my brothers called ‘Sibling’ I sang pop songs and played the drums in this band. As I grew into a teenager and had my heart broken for the first time, I began writing songs on the guitar . These songs really reflected the music I grew up listening to (funk and soul) with a modern songwriter twist. I have a very soulful voice so all my songs have a funky twist. My guitar playing, in particular, is unique because I strum as if it’s a rhythm instrument. I started as a drummer so this reflects in my playing. I’m so proud at how far I’ve come . My father and my brothers are my band and we were featured on the reality show ‘Next Great Family Band’ it’s such an amazing adventure to have that connection with family and music because we just can’t anticipate how the music is going to come through. I am grateful for how far my music has taken me. I’ve toured with some of the biggest names in the business and have recently received an endorsement deal with Traveler Guitar. I have always made music for me and always listened to my soul when I create it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take my best friend to Philly. We would head over to a few jazz bars , where we would lose ourselves in the music and vibes. I’m a vegan so I would take her to all of the best vegan restaurants. Philadelphia has THE BEST food (In my opinion ) 🙂 I would also take her to several art gallery’s along the way Within the week, we would head to New Hope, PA which is the most creative area I know! It has so many unique shops, psychics and ghostly experiences. We would also be checking out live music with backstage passes since I know all of the venue owners!
