We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Gillis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystal, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The inception of Tighties as a business stemmed from a profound realization that the realm of orthopedic care could extend beyond medical intervention. Drawing upon years of diverse industry experience and the collaborative efforts of experts, we outlined key initiatives which all brought us back to one centered point: we wanted to help active people stay active by alleviating known obstacles such as pain, mobility, endurance and time.

As the resounding affirmative answers unfolded, it was evident that we were on the brink of something transformative. The potential impact of our products in enhancing people’s lives was undeniable, so it was a matter of laying out the map and finding the right team to bring it to life.

The thought process behind starting Tighties was rooted in a genuine desire to address a real need and make a positive impact on people’s lives. It was about turning possibilities into realities and creating activewear that embraces both comfort and functionality.

Therefore, our mantra for Tighties is activewear that works as hard as you do. Our consumers see the difference and they feel the difference in their everyday activity.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Absolutely thrilled to share the story of Tighties™, a venture born out of a dynamic 16-year journey weaving through entrepreneurship and corporate landscapes, spanning diverse industries from human capital software to medical devices and direct-to-consumer hair products. Each step has been a profound learning experience, shaping both my business identity and personal growth.
The inception of Tighties™ was sparked during my involvement in a commercialization plan for an orthopedic product launch. Intrigued by the concept of wearable products focused on muscle engagement rather than off-loading, the idea evolved into a groundbreaking venture that has led me to where I am today, and something that makes our products so unique. Tighties™ stands out as the pioneer in orthopedic activewear, revolutionizing pain management and muscle conditioning. Our patent-pending adjustable support technology integrated into activewear provides users with not just relief but enhanced performance in their daily activities. From supporting lifelong athletes in maintaining mobility to aiding busy parents with muscle activation and strengthening, Tighties™ is the epitome of wearable technology’s vast potential.

Building Tighties™ from the ground up has been the most inspiring and exciting chapter yet. I’ve learned that life’s experiences will inevitably lead you to where you need to be, and the synergy between my personal growth and the timing of this endeavor truly speaks to this. For me, its not just about creating a product; it’s about crafting a narrative that encapsulates resilience, innovation and a commitment to enhancing lives through cutting-edge technology. In essence, Tighties™ is more than a brand; it’s a testament to the power of embracing diverse experiences and seizing opportunities to create something truly groundbreaking. We invite the world to join us on this journey of redefining wearable technology and making a tangible impact on the way people approach pain management and muscle conditioning.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week?! My besties definitely know I have about a 4 day max on visitors 🙂 Here are my favorites:

1) Sail San Diego at Sunset. There is no better way feel the water and to really see the city than from a boat! We do this with every visitor.

2) Torrey Pines Beach Hike. The views, the tranquility. This is a great spot to show visitors and an awesome quick reset spot.

3) Padres game. The stadium, the energy, the FOOD. Yes.

4) Food: Jolie Coronado, which opened this year, has become our favorite food spot in the city. It’s about the food and pairings, no frill and you will never leave disappointed.

5) The beach. For us, it literally doesn’t matter what beach. It’s never a bad time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my incredible family! Everyone needs a strong support system around them to help them climb big mountains and I have been so lucky that my family has been helping me every step of the way. From my daughters, ages 6 and 9, my husband, all the way to my Dad. They are my sounding board, the constant reminder of my “why” and a cheering squad that says “we can do hard things!”.
