We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Stern and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, what principle do you value most?
I value being of-service. Making a difference in the lives of others is a guiding principle in my life.
There have been a number of individuals who have supported me in personal transformational work.
I am now committed to being an agent of change. I work best with intense, powerful teachings and experiences.
I teach what has worked for me, with the intention of these technologies supporting others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
SKY / Spirit Kundalini Yoga is a spiritually based yoga practice that incorporates; intention, asana / posture, pranayama / breathwork, dristi / eye focus, mantra, mudra and music / sound in the direction of expanded awareness. In every session we have the opportunity to create a transformational experience for ourselves, to continually tap into our unlimited creative potential. I love that there’s a consistent container being held from Tuning In to the Long Time Sunshine Song or sealing the session, while also having a variety of experiences. No two sessions are exactly the same, yet there are experiences you can depend on having every time. As I expand and grow what I offer expands and grows and that is very exciting.

Over 20 years ago, I was in a dark place in life. I was unhealthy, exhausted, in debt and hating my corporate job. Additionally, I felt inadequate, incapable and uninspired. I struggled with addictive behaviors, negative thought patterns and unhealthy relationships. I was making war with myself. It was impossible to pursue any kind of direction aligned with my heart, my joy.

I was seeking, finally open and began to take steps forward. I located a class with my local community center that sounded interesting. I walked into my first yoga class seeking peace, a break from darkness and the class shifted me. I attended my very first Kundalini Yoga class with Karen May (a student teacher) and I had a transformational life experience.

A transformational experience is a moment or event that deeply shifts how someone thinks, feels, or behaves. It often leads to personal growth, self-discovery, or a new perspective on life. I was sparked awake!

This was not easy and sometimes not pleasant, I was seeing myself and I was sometimes mortified. I moved through moments of self-sabotage and unworthiness. Participating in class made a true difference and I could not deny the ‘polish and shine’ effect I was experiencing immediately afterwards. I built up my will to see deeper truths of myself. I made changes through self-reliance, personal responsibility. I’ve learned so much and yet I am consistently reminded of how little I know and how important it is to be a student.

My mantra is ONE SKY SESSION in enough to know if this technology is for you. One session has the power to transform. In every session we Tune-In with the Adi Mantra, a bij or seed mantra (Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo) that connects and/or strengthens our connection to the teacher within, our highest self. These sessions are powerful beyond measure, as we are powerful beyond measure.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The beach! My favorite is Dog Beach in Del Mar. If you love dogs and enjoy observing, playing with them – this is a must.
I rather enjoy a picnic of my favorite goodies; fresh baked goods, homemade gourmet sandwiches and my own charcuterie platter. Nurturing through food is a favorite practice of mine.
The meditation gardens of Self Realization Fellowship in Encinitas, founded by Paramahansa Yogananda. A wonderful place to attune to nature and yourself.
Sunburst Sanctuary, a spiritual community near the central coast of California. I love retreating here, a place I lived at for a short time. It’s a magical place and rich with nature and possibility.
Temecula Wine Country along one of my favorite spots in the area, Divine Yoga Properties, owned by Tracy.
Of course, Sage Sanctuary in Wildomar where I teach a weekly SKY Session on Tuesday mornings at 9am.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Community is so important to me and I am actively creating and participating in community events, gatherings and classes. Connecting together authentically, sharing our joys and sorrows allows growth.
The Kundalini Yoga and Sound Healing communities along with online resources continue to expand my knowledge and up-level the teachings I offer.
I am deeply grateful for the support I receive from my friends and family, specifically my mother, Gilda. Mom is a lifeforce that helps to sustain me and allow me to pursue my mission of being a beneficial presence on Planet Earth.
