We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After tearing my ACL for the third time last year, I was forced to slow down in a way I hadn’t in years. That downtime gave me space to reflect on what I really wanted out of life and my career.

I had spent years in the corporate world, and while I learned a lot, I was feeling burned out. I realized I was putting so much energy into work that I wasn’t truly passionate about. I wanted to build something of my own, something that aligned with my values and allowed me to make a meaningful impact in my community.

As I thought about what that could look like, I kept coming back to wellness, connection, and helping people feel their best. When I discovered FACE FOUNDRIÉ, it felt like the perfect fit.

What I love most is that it makes self-care more accessible. As a working mom, I know how difficult it can be to prioritize yourself. FACE FOUNDRIÉ offers high-quality skincare in a way that feels approachable and realistic for everyday life.

Starting my own business was ultimately about creating a life and career with more purpose. It was a leap, but one that felt completely aligned with who I am and what I wanted my next chapter to be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been drawn to building things. Early in my career, I started a small outdoor bootcamp business, which gave me my first taste of entrepreneurship. From there, I spent more than 15 years working with brands like TRX Training, The North Face, Stitch Fix, and Intuit, leading learning & development and customer experience programs.

Looking back, I’ve often found myself in roles where there wasn’t a clear roadmap. I’ve always been comfortable working in the gray and, as we used to say, “building the plane while flying it.” Being in uncharted territory motivates me. I enjoy figuring things out, creating structure where it doesn’t exist, and helping turn an idea into something meaningful.

I’ve also learned that relationships matter. Every opportunity in my career has been shaped by incredible mentors, teammates, and leaders. Staying curious, continuing to learn, and surrounding yourself with great people has opened more doors for me than any five-year plan ever could.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If one of my best friends came to visit San Diego for a week, we’d spend most of our time outdoors. That’s what I love most about living here. You can be active all day and still feel like you’re on vacation.

A perfect day would start with a workout at Salt or Revel Fitness in Pacific Beach, followed by coffee, a beach walk, and a swim. We’d spend the afternoon at Law Street Beach and probably have burritos from Taco Surf delivered right to the sand.

I’d definitely plan a staycation night at L’Auberge Del Mar. We’d spend the day lounging by the pool before heading to Monarch for sunset drinks and dinner overlooking the ocean.

One afternoon would be dedicated to Liberty Station. We’d start with facials at FACE FOUNDRIÉ, brunch at Cocina 35, walk along the waterfront, browse a few shops, and finish with a glass of wine at Carruth Cellars.

For a night out, we’d head to Little Italy for dinner at Barbusa, then hop around a few of the neighborhood wine bars.

I’d also take them to a San Diego FC match. The energy at those games has been incredible and it’s quickly become one of my favorite things to do in the city.

For me, the best parts of San Diego are pretty simple: being outside, staying active, and spending time with friends and family.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Matt, deserves a lot of credit. For years, I was the one with the stable corporate job while he was running his own business, so deciding to leave that path and start a business of my own felt like a big shift for our family. We spent countless hours talking through the financials, the risks, and what life would realistically look like with both of us being business owners.

Matt has been incredibly supportive through all of it. He believed in me, even on the days when I was feeling uncertain, and lifted me up when I started to doubt myself. He’s also taken on so much more at home so I can spend evenings and weekends building the business.

Starting FACE FOUNDRIÉ may have been my idea, but it wouldn’t have been possible without his partnership, support, and willingness to embrace that change alongside me.
