We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Ball and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My business focuses on helping moms over 40 to prioritize their health. But this is bigger than just committing to an exercise routine and choosing healthy foods. It’s providing support in a society that glamorizes the act of neglecting yourself to be a “supermom”. It’s educating moms to focus on strong and robust in a society that values skinny. Building strength in the perimenopausal period is important for a woman to have a strong foundation for maintaining health past childbearing years. Not only does my business help moms form healthy, consistent habits for themselves, but it effects the next generation as well! Children witness the actions and habits of their parents… so by tending to their own health and wellness, moms model the importance of prioritizing health and strength to their very impressionable children. I feel very strongly that my business impacts our community in a very important way!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my 20 years as a Fitness Professional, I’m so proud to say that I’ve been willing to try and fail more times than I can count. Being a former high level gymnast has given me the intrinsic bravery to always face my fears – and that has led me to put myself in leadership positions, push myself to be a better coach through intentional practice, always be learning more about my craft, and continuing to study the business and marketing side of things. My attempts have certainly not been easy or always successful… But we just have to keep getting back up and trying again. I have excelled as a coach through leading CrossFit classes, supporting private clients, and creating/implementing super effective group exercise programs. And I continue to walk the talk by following my own athletic pursuits and healthy habits.
My experience and my education is comprehensive. My past as a competitive athlete (both in gymnastics and CrossFit) equips me with a lot of personal expertise. But what I truly bring to the table is a more compassionate energy to fitness, nutrition, and health. I love to teach others to challenge themselves and become empowered by their own capabilities… but I also love to help people learn how to live a balanced life. Exercise doesn’t have to be long lasting to be effective. Your efforts don’t have to be perfect for you to see results. This shift in perspective happened for me when I became a mom and needed to relearn how to prioritize myself. I love to work with moms because I can 100% relate to their journey. And as a mom over 40, I’ve dedicated my business to supporting other midlife moms who need help prioritizing themselves in the little time they have. My programs make it easy for moms to just show up, do the work, and go back to their day. This is what I’m most excited about. That my professional years have all led to this point – creating a growing community of moms over 40 who value their health and want to remain adventurous as their kids grow up.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the spirit of living a balanced life, I’d likely pepper in some outdoor activities, some entertainment, AND some delicious restaurants as well. We could hike Calavera Mountain in Oceanside, Black Mountain in Rancho Peñasquitos, or the trails in Torrey Pines. They all have great views. Maybe a mountain biking jaunt around Lake Hodges. We would definitely hit the beach (Oceanside Harbor if the kids are with us), and walk around La Jolla to see the Seal Reserve, the Cove, and the fun shops. The SD Zoo or Safari Park would be a must visit. For restaurants. I’d definitely visit Las Olas in Cardiff, Local Tap House in Oceanside, and the Shanghai Saloon in Mira Mesa. There would definitely be a breakfast restaurant in there, too – but I’m having trouble deciding 😉
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my friend, mentor, and accountability partner, Leigh Patterson. She has helped support me throughout each step of crafting a schedule and a business plan that feeds the life I want to live. She helps me stay focused on keeping my priorities straight AND making sure I’m taking care of myself in the process. Thank you for everything, Leigh!
