We had the good fortune of connecting with Kieler Avery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kieler, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“If you’re happy doing what you’re doing, no one can tell you you’re not successful.” – Harry Styles
This quote has always really stuck with me because doing what I do it’s super easy to get caught up in what everyone else thinks. For a long time my biggest fear has always been not being successful. I’m always thinking about how people are going to react to my songs, what they’re going to say about it, how many streams it’s going to get, etc… I think about this quote a lot during times like that because it helps me slow down and remember why I’m making music in the first place, because I love it, and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a 17 year old singer/songwriter. I released my first EP last year at 16 years old and perform pretty much anywhere anyone will let me. I think the biggest thing I’ve learned as an artist and performer is to be myself. People like seeing someone comfortable on stage, seeing someone be who they are, and I think I’m the most me when I’m performing. I want nothing more than to do this forever.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many great things to do in San Diego! Here are some of my favorites:
The Roxy in Encinitas – Great place near the beach with great food and live music.
Hotel Del Coronado – A must see for everyone visiting. Especially during the Christmas season.
Hop the ferry from downtown San Diego and ride across to Coronado for lunch. Lots of great eateries as well as live music at certain times of the year.
If you are in town during October the Old Town Ghosts and Graveyards tour is super cool.
World Famous San Diego Zoo
Lolitas! My favorite Mexican food in South Bay
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents! I wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for their unconditional support. I’m unbelievably lucky and grateful to have them.
