We had the good fortune of connecting with Khris Sesley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khris, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The idea of starting my own business came from my upbringing and my desire to change the landscape of what my family knew as success. I come from a Blue Collar city, Memphis, Tn, and a blue collar family. While there is absolutely no issue with blue collar work I wanted to show myself and those around me that entrepreneurship was an option too. Not just the model I was taught where I was supposed to pick a field, go to college or tech school for it and then getting a job and live happily ever after.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well interestingly enough I’m in the middle of a full career change. I’ve been in the US Navy for a little over 7 years and I’m going into my new career as a Realtor as we speak and its tough. Trying to fulfill my obligation of my service and simultaneously run a real estate business has been a bit of a challenge just trying to find my footing with both. Not to mention that I’m a husband a father of 3, and at no cost will I give my family any less time than I am now. They come first! But as challenging as it is, it’s exciting and rewarding stepping into a career where I control my destiny and its a dream coming into fruition to be an entrepreneur. I just want the world to know that you don’t have to settle professionally despite your circumstances. I’ll be living proof of that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I currently live in Oceanside but I embrace the whole SD County as my home, and like I tell all my clients especially those relocating, there’s always something to do in SD county.
Brunch is probably my favorite thing to do these days so we’d have to go to Don’s Country Kitchen in Oceanside or Hash House a Go-Go for sure and then maybe check out the beach. Next day Balboa Park is a tourist must do! Whether is a museum, the botanical garden or even the Zoo, you have to see it if you come to SD. Same with Seaworld, you cant come to San Diego and not go. Thursdays I love to go to the Oceanside street fair where there’s like hundreds of food trucks and vendors with literally any kind of food your heart desires there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many of course but if I had to choose one person I’d have to go with my pops (dad). My dad was instrumental to me becoming everything I am today and I always aimed to resemble him on most aspects of my life. In fatherhood, as a husband, my work ethic, and in my resilience which I think is an underrated factor in the stories of many successful people.
