We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Kowalski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I never think of things as a risk, I think of things as potential possibilities. Risk implies that you may fail or miss out on something but potential possibilities means there is a potential to succeed or find new ways to approach your plans. I plan and work hard in hopes to be successful and then try. When things don’t work out as planned there should be other new ideas that present themselves as long as you are looking for them. That is potential possibility. In my teaching career I always encourage my students to try things out or find new possibilities in their work. In my personal artist career this keeps me motivated to keep trying new things and pushing myself to move forward.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Kowalski Pottery was born out of a desire to make something beautiful for others to enjoy in their homes and daily lives. But I haven’t left my passion for education and sharing behind. I have always tried to share my process and teach others the things I have learned along the way through my social media accounts. Recently I have created virtual and in person workshops available on my website. This is a way to share my process and build up the ceramics community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the Plaza of Orange (Orange Circle) in the the city of Orange. The food and drinks are great but the traffic circle and historic fountain area really brings the circle to life. Make sure to walk the streets and enjoy all the small businesses and shops.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife and family. They encourage, show love and supporter every step of the way.
