We had the good fortune of connecting with Keiko Tanabe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keiko, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Before becoming a full-time artist/teacher, I had a job in the corporate world. Even though the nature of my current work may seem different, I think I have always approached my career in a similar way. What I learned from these careers is, the power of passion. I believe the passion always guides you in the right direction and put you on a path to achieve your goals.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As artists, we all work hard to master techniques of the medium we have chosen. But it is the emotional content that makes our work unique. It is important for me that my painting to represent me to communicate with the world to tell my personal stories.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For the ultimate San Diego experience, I’d definitely take them for a waterfront stroll by the San Diego Bay, then cross the beautiful bridge to visit the Coronado Island for a seaside resort ambiance. Balboa Park is such a vibrant, culture-rich urban park where we can spend a whole day. While we’re there, we will stop at the Spanish Village, a colorful artist colony to meet local artists. For a nice change, we will enjoy an hour’s drive to the mountains and visit a charming village such as Julian. In the springtime, it may be wonderful to travel further to the desert to enjoy a huge carpet of wild flowers. To watch a gorgeous sunset, we will head to the Sunset Cliffs or La Jolla.
