Meet Karlee Dorian | SoCal Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karlee Dorian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karlee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My entire life I’ve always had this question of “what’s my purpose and what is God’s path for me?”. I got my B.A in Marketing and worked in various industries trying to find my calling, but I never felt like “YES!, I’ve finally found it!”, until I started my own business K.Dorian Photography. It sparked a fire inside of me that was waiting to be ignited and now it’s growing into something I’m really proud of. Not only am I able to do what I love, but also provide for my family and more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art of photography isn’t just taking a good picture. It’s connecting, understanding and creating something that will become a rarity in time. Being able to capture moments in someone’s life that they can look back on for years and generations to come is truly special. Receiving my clients feedback on the photos I’ve taken for them is what keeps me going and fulfills my heart with so much happiness each and every time. When starting a business of course there’s ups and downs and for me I take them as they come, but know it’s all apart of the journey. From doubting my work, to feeling I wasn’t good enough, to being scared of failure it could be emotionally draining, but as I learned to overcome those thoughts and believe in myself it’s been a rewarding experience. Now K. Dorian Photography is taking new heights on surpassing goals I never knew I could achieve and will soon be offering more creative options like film and super 8 packages, which I’m excited for!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I may be biased by living in Riverside, but I have to say that Riverside has it all. When it comes to dining, unique art, community, thriving downtown and nightlife you’ll be able to find it here. Cheech Marin just opened his very own Chicano Art and Culture museum in the heart of downtown Riverside and has brought so much creative inspiration to the area. It’s definitely a must see! Downtown Riverside is also the home of the historic Mission Inn and is probably one of my favorite places to shoot at because of the beautiful architecture it possesses inside and out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My entire journey and first steps of making my photography from what it was to what it is now comes from the motivation and support of my husband saying I could do it, my mom and dad always believing in my passions, my community of talented creatives that I love so much! It’s been such a blessing to connect with so many photographers and express our challenges, celebrate our accomplishments and continue to lift each other up to succeed within our business goals and new ideas. Lastly, my clients who’ve become family that continue to book and refer time and time again. My business wouldn’t be where it is today without all of them.
