We had the good fortune of connecting with Lizet Benrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lizet, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One of biggest lessons the acting/film-making industry has taught me, is how to embrace unpredictability. When I paint, I imagine something and it morphs with every brush stroke. In a similar fashion, my career is ever-evolving, and certainly filled with surprises. I have learned to find joy in the process. My career has taught me the nuances of when to be completely taken and when to stand still. Connecting fully to my inner self and what I stand for guides me to the now. I will continue to strive to keep my work honest, imaginative, raw, layered and fundamentally meaningful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve faced my fair share of struggle and obstacle. Art is subjective. People project themselves in the work of others, biasing its objectivity. From my perspective, talent is essential, but hard work, luck and timing are crucial to success. The act of creating, whether it be moviemaking, character development or painting, is miraculous. This career is a gift, and I’m honored to be its participant. Within the unavoidable hardships, there is invaluable growth. I am proud of many of my paintings and best works. The recognition I have received as an artist, the awards and exhibitions I have had throughout the world have also brought me great joy. Most recently, I co-wrote, co-starred and co-produced The Witching Hour, and earned “Best Actress” by Golden State Film Festival in Hollywood, California. I would say, most of all, I am proud of my ability to reinvent myself as I continue my career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It is difficult to envision where I would physically go with my best friend in times of Coronavirus. However, the places I know we would thoroughly enjoy include art museums, movie theaters and nature retreats.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have spent invaluable time with well-known talented artists, film directors, writers, actors and musicians, including of course my beloved mother Shirley Chernitsky. Of the countless profound lessons I’ve taken away, one constant has been the importance of resiliency; to be attentive to my inner voice and silence the voices of judgment both external and internal.
