Meet Karin Gallo | Landscape designer/ Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karin Gallo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been passionate about creativity—whether through landscape design or visual art—so starting my own business felt like a natural step. I wanted the freedom to bring my unique vision to life, blend artistry with nature, and create spaces that inspire people. It was less about following a traditional path and more about building something that truly reflects my passion and values.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
That period of my life was the most difficult I’ve ever faced, but I’m incredibly grateful for it because it shaped who I am today. I was in the middle of a very difficult divorce when I got into a car accident that left me in a coma for two days. When I woke up, doctors told me I had a brain tumor. Thankfully, it was successfully removed that same year, but the recovery process left me unable to work or drive for two years, leading to serious financial struggles.
During that time, I started selling my paintings online—out of necessity at first, but it eventually became a turning point in my career. When I was finally able to work again, I had to start from the bottom, doing landscape maintenance and a few designs. As a single mom, coming out of years of hardship, I was exhausted from fighting for so long. But resilience, surrounding myself with supportive people, and staying grateful for even the smallest things kept me going.
Looking back, I see that every challenge pushed me toward something greater. It wasn’t easy, but it led me to a beautiful place in life. My journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, creativity, and finding strength in the hardest moments.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the incredible support of my family, friends, and mentors who have encouraged me every step of the way. A special shoutout goes to my mom—an incredible woman whose passion for nature was woven into every aspect of her life. She taught me to appreciate the beauty and power of the natural world, a lesson that has deeply shaped my work.
I was also incredibly lucky to travel the world from an early age, experiencing different cultures and perspectives. That exposure opened my mind in ways I couldn’t have imagined, fueling my creativity and allowing me to see design, art, and landscapes through a much broader, more dynamic lens. I’m also grateful for the artists and designers who have inspired me and my clients who trust my vision. It really does take a village, and I’m so thankful for mine!
