We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie and Mick Scrivener and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie and Mick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Having worked in an office/corporate environment for many years, my husband and I decided to branch out and take the risk to start our own business and work for ourselves. It was a scary time as we had very secure jobs in the brokerage industry but we wanted to push ourselves and do something different. Mick started his own DJ company, Elite British DJ. He had worked as a DJ in the past but not for his own company so it was a natural progression. I hung around as his roadie to help him load in and load out and decided to try my hand at becoming a wedding planner. I followed a few years later and opened up my business, The Best Wedding For You. Now 15 years later, we both have a strong presence in San Diego in the wedding community. This year has obviously been challenging with COVID19, but hoping 2021 is better!
What should our readers know about your business?
We are a husband and wife DJ and Wedding Planner company. While we have two separate businesses, we market ourselves as a package where you can book us both! This has proven to be a great selling point as clients like the ease of being able to book us both at the same time and know that we will work well together! We are proud of the fact that we have both won many awards including The Knot and WeddingWire for 10 straight years. These are 2 of the most recognized wedding planning websites. We pride ourselves on customer service and love working with our clients to make their day extra special. We have become lifelong friends with many of them after their wedding day! We have learned to adjust as times have changed. The wedding world (like everything) is constantly evolving and changing so we need to keep up with the times. If you don’t keep up with the times, you will be left behind!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love going out downtown and in Little Italy. There are so many great restaurants and bars! Some of our favorites are Social Tap in the Gaslamp (shout-out….they also cater weddings!) and Monello in Little Italy! Of course if the Padres are in town, you need to watch a game in Petco Park! A beach visit is a must so would swing by La Jolla and Del Mar where we frequent. We are also avid hikers, so hopefully they would tackle hiking up to Potato Chip for the view!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
