We had the good fortune of connecting with Jules Muck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jules, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As an artist I was already working for myself when I sat on the street and sold bits of cardboard paintings for pennies, or hung off freeways and got arrested for my trouble. Now decades later I find myself in a position of power over my work and my income. No one controls my flow but myself and god. Doing murals for pay on residential and commercial properties afforded me the ability to get my own space in a hot spot and use my own studio to sell my work. I am able to employ my own sales team and pay them instead of waiting for a gallery to pay me a cut.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I didn’t want to be an artist but it came for me. It did not feel useful or stable for a long time. Now I recognize the power to heal and inspire that art gives people. I had many hard times and I am grateful for all of them. The making of art is still my favorite part of this multifaceted journey. Being helpful and useful in the world is also amazing,

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Come over have a coffee, catch a sunset, pet a dog and let’s try n hit the freeway tonight.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Lady Pink my mentor. The recovery community. Venice California for embracing me. Higher powers for allowing me to best be of service.
